I too had the issue where as soon as I tried to put the car in gear it would die. I found the thread here about the dealer installed version, but that doesn't appear to apply to the 2013s. I was getting annoyed with the design to the point that I was considering taking the car and going for a lower model.
Today I remote started the car because there was frost on the windshield. Since I had already given up on the system I didn't think much about it when I go in and pushed the start button like normal. I was halfway through my drive before I realized what had happened. I tested it again once I got to my destination and sure enough, pushing the start button before getting into gear won't kill the engine. (you of course have to have the IA key with you in the car. it still dies otherwise.) Pushing the start button after its been remote started is like switching over to your IA key from the system key - all the accessories turn on like normal and the engine doesn't try to crank again.
Operating exactly as designed, as per the owners manual.

Ransil,

Did you get the new modual installed? Does it still work the same way you said it did or does it shut off now.

sorry i missed the last few post on the site. So if you push the start button before you do anything else the car continues to run? YES? NO? Maybe?

I talked with the dealer about the issues with the remote start. He told me he could program it any way I wanted. I told him if I bought it and had it installed that I could have it set up so that when I remote start it I will be able to get into the car and all i would have to do is push the start button once and then I could hit the brake, put it in gear and drive away, without the car ever shutting off. He said yes. So I am thinking about haveing it installed. Anything you guys can think of I might be missing?

Anyone had aftermarket remote start/security system installed on theirs? How much is reasonable for such service? Thanks!

Havent had one installed personally, tho a couple things a buddy told me to consider (he worked for a fairly large electronics company here in cowtown)...
1) There is alot of cutting and splicing into the harness to get them to work.
2) Their reliability may not be the best, because of that splicing and cutting.
3) Do you really want some minimum wage monkey screwing with a fairly important part of your car...

Personally, Id much rather a factory remote start (no matter how annoying) and keep my warranty, than go with something that functions right but very possibly could TKO my warranty.
Oh, and im actually looking at a Python 872LE for the mustang, and was my reaction to how much there is to connect to get it functioning...

I have installed a few remote starts before, and they're no fun. The last one I did on the wife's LS, and it took me 2 days, as I properly soldered all the wiring. I opted for a Code Alarm model that had lock/unlock all on one keypad. What a wiring nightmare, especially the security bypass - and the hunched over/under the dash... Never ever will I install one again!

I have had my 2013 focus titanium for about two weeks and the remote start works. my only problem is on the really cold nights (-10 to 0) it does not run long enough to defrost the windows all the way. If I could find out how to make it run a little longer that would be great.
