HELP with 04 SVT fan resistor removal

Hey I was replacing my fan resistor plus wiring harness and following the directions I found on here. However when I tried to remove the resistor it seems that I would have to take out the entire fan assembly just to switch out resistors. Is that the case or is there something I am missing. Thanks

I have the same fans ^ I did take mine out to switch them it can be tricky if your heat shield is still on , but I managed to wedge mine down through . You may be able to pop it out and pull the resistor out without completely removing it , I was replacing my complete fan assembly when I did mine.
