Life Expectancy

I have a 2001 Ford Focus... She's getting up there in the miles (78,000) and I was just wondering how many miles I can expect out of this little machine. Will it be like the car's Japanese counterparts and last 200,000 miles... or will it be more typical of a domestic and go for 120,000-150,000?

Thanks for your time!

Some people on fj are now up to 130,000 miles + modifications.

If your car is pretty stock, I am sure you can push it to 180k. I guess we will be the 1st ones to know...:)

it all depends on how you frive, i had a friend who had a civic that was drove hard and had to change the engine at 90k, and also had a friend with an accord who had to change the engine at 111k, i think it all depends onhow you treat the car, the focus' are built very strong

you can expect exactly 78,013 miles. they put a special kill switch in the car that makes the pistons shoot out throgh the heads at exactly that milestone. really.

My ZX3 was driven hard most of the time and had 84,000 when sold. Alot of Auto-x'ing. The only thing that proved to be a problem over and over was the DPFE.

I am sick of the japanese stereotype about there cars lasting longer than American cars. Your car will last just as long as a civic if taken care of the same. Don't tell my ranger 4x4 that it was supposed to be dead a long time ago.. it has 275,000 miles on it. The only thing that ever went wrong with it so far is the japanese transmision. Three times in fact. mitsubishi transmisions suck!

This is my 1st Ford that I have owned. Except for my 1st real car here in the US, a Ford Festiva bought like 5th hand, that little thing had 120,000 miles but was still strong.

If taken care of, the SVT Zetec is supposed to last 150,000 to 200,000, so I think your car can last if you've been taking care of it. I baby my car a lot, but I have my fun, so I'm hoping for it to last until 150,000.

the reason japanese automakers cars last "so long", is because they need all the maintenance done to keep their warranty, where most domestic owners just change their oil, keep their warranty, and keep on trucking.

A car will last as long as you want it to. As long as it's maintained, the engine will last virtually forever. My American, 95 Ford Escort GT, lasted until almost 200k, until it was totalled in an accident. That car was bought new, and was driven like a rental car from day one. I mean, that car was MURDERED. Only tires, brakes, hoses, belts etc. were changed. Original clutch, exhaust, struts... I guess the struts were getting *a little* worn at the end.
