Red, call me an idiot but how did you remove the package shelf tray? I don't really see how the hang cords detach from the hatch door without destroying them. Thanks

The shelf cord end loops just slip out of little buttons at the body end. Simple, but i think they look a little fragile, so be careful with them.
It took me awhile to realize the seat bottoms flip up. The space is really great.

I have a rear seat passenger less than once in a blue moon, so i took the back headreasts off and stuck them in a locker.

Folks with the full size spare (more than one inch) do not get to have a flat bottom. Nor do the folks with the Subwoofer (one inch) The spare tire area sticks up with either.

Nice pic with the ladder.

Ah Hah!!! Thanks Elizabeth. I looked all through the manual and 45 minutes of Internet searching and got bupkis. Your explanation got me pointed in the right direction.

Going car camping tomorrow with the wife and the dog and needed all the room I can get. Removing that package tray makes it look cavernous in there. Just to be sure I put on a Yakima rack with a Rocketbox 15s (15 cubic feet of storage). We may just survive the 4 days.

I knew right off because my 1989 Mercury Tracer hatch had the same type of shelf.

Are the front headrests removable? Specifically the passenger side... I don't see a release on the front seats.

So OK ... here we have a 14ft Boom from my sailboat being moved.

Also 10ft lengths of 3/4 in. PCV pipe fit inside no problem.

I measured 10 feet 4 inches as the maximum storage length from trunk to windshield. No other hatchback comes close.

Yes all the headrests can be removed. The small plastic square the headrest tube fits into in the seat top has a push button on BOTH sides. One is able to be pushed with your finger. The other side is small and need to be pushed with an object. I used the car key to push in that side button. Also the front seats should be angled back or the headrest will hit the roof and not come out.
(put pressure on the tube release done so it does not pop back in, so you can do the second tube
: just keep the side done tube pulled upwards with pressure...)
I have all of them off at one point or another.
