Jen, this wasn't maybe the best thread to post your issue, but let me see if I can help a little...

First, the cars that were made in the first 6 months of production did have a lot more issues and you can find out if your cars is one of them but going to the website below and entering your VIN. If your cars was made before about October of 2011 there's a much greater chance that there were defects.

The good news is that it looks like Ford wants to replace the transmission and steering rack and if that's true then when they are done you should be pretty well good to go. The early cars did have transmission and steering rack issues so getting that fixed, under warranty, should make things much better.

So, write down your VIN number (located in the lower corner, drivers side of the windshield or on the drivers side door pillar), click on the link below, go to the "Vehicle" tab and enter the VIN there.

In addition to finding the actual build date it should tell you if there is any other actions that need to be done and if there are mention it to the service writer when you bring it in for work...

Thanks Jen, I'm having the same type of issues with my new Focus, this will give me a little insight on what I'm looking for.
