I like it! makes it look like a photo taken back in the time :)

One thing I think would be cool..... if you took one of those and just colored the yellow parts in.

They seem a little bit dark, perhaps a different action will give a brighter appearance, or up the exposure.

I did, but not much. I was using a 50mm lens for this one towards evening. See how quick my shutter speed was?

I've got similar shots, but with different color/light levels. Not on Flickr yet tho, gotta export them.

I don't normally shoot portraits; it's definitely a weaker part of my shooting. Here's a few of my attempts, though:

Subjects a bit too centered. I think the last photo here is funny.

With not a lot of lighting in there ... the photos look a bit flat.

Next try moving your subject close to a window or add some kind of reflective surface to bounce some light at them from one angle or the other. Like use a white poster board to bounce a bit of light, be it tungsten or sunlight, and give some depth to your shots.

For instance ... like this photo:

There was a large window to my right and we had a large poster board to my left that bounce some light to her. And moving her away from the background, separated her just right for the shot. A bit of Bokeh to isolate her. Also I re-composed the shot a bit to the left to better fulfill the rule of thirds.

Or this photo:

Here I went for more of a headshot. Here I did use a single strobe to the left of me, but that's it. There is a window in this room, but I kept her away from the window enough to keep the balance of color correct on her. But again, I watched the rule of thirds and also had some lines that keeps your attention back on her and not the rest of the photo.

Another pointer about taking portraits of people, watch their chin.

Here's a test, take a photo of person ... then take another photo where you ask them to lean towards you a bit, chin first. It feels silly and you can tell them (ice breaker for clients) Then take a photo.

Compare the photos. You will be surprised at how that little bit of motion helps.

Try it some time.

^^ She is one of my models that I use from time to time. She is expected to be cute.

And she is also a Pro-Dancer and fellow Pro-Photog as well.
