So, my 55-200 isnt focusing correctly anymore.
It auto focuses just fine, but its never perfect like it used to be.
I havent got a good chance to try it out in the light yet, but it just seems way off.
If I shoot through the focus in manual, I can get the shot right after a few tries.
Any ideas?

The autofocus system works on contrast. Try it in the daylight before making any judgement about the functionality of the system. There are also AF test pages you can download and print out to test it.

It works fine indoors.
It just seems to be off when i was trying to take a few pics of my car earlier.
It was late afternoon and beginning to get dark.
I'll try it out in the sun first thing tomorrow.

Where are you placing your AF point? It should be placed over an area with high contrast. Like window frames, etc.

Try placing it where the hood meets the headlight.

Other thing is, how close are you getting?

You may be out of it's focus range and it will just hit the focus range and take the photo.

To test focus, you should also put it on a stable place like a tripod and not be hand holding it. Because then you have the variable of your own person shake.
