n00b question of the day:

So I've been looking at lenses, particularly a 50mm, 35mm, or a <18mm.

My cameras crop factors is around 1.52. So that means that with a 50mm lens, it will be essentially around 75mm, correct?

If so, a 50mm for me would be a good "upper body" lens? I know on the few full frame cameras I have used, 85 always came out a little better than a 50.

Honestly I just like the challenge of trying to capture the way I look at the world in something that I can show to other people. I'm always staring up at the sky, and I find that most of my pictures put the sky in at least 2/3 of the frame. AS of right now it's definitely a just-for-fun thing (working on a degree in mechanical engineering right now). I wouldn't be opposed to making prints of some of my better shots and selling them locally, though.

I can't quite get a feel for what you mean. You're saying you would crop the left side until the road goes all the way to the edge of the frame?

Crop 2 inches to the left from the right corner. I see what lyonsroar is saying and I agree it looks good that way. I'd give a go at it, but I don't like working on other peoples images without permission....plus I'm on the iPad.....lol.
