SVT Focus Vs. Cobalt SS comparison (with Video)

A buddy of mine runs a SVT with Konis and race tires as his only mods. He is an amazing driver (as you can see from the video). He had the opportunity to take out a SS Cobalt (Turbo) on Street tires for comparison. The times where just about identical.
Here's the video:

ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

UPDATE: The Colbat was on Hankook R-S2s. So they are very good tires for street tires.

260hp vs 170hp @ the flywheel and the focus still ran around the same times.

Goes to show AutoX is about driver's skill as oppose to power of car.

Awesome vid for comparison.

When I go AutoX-ing we see lots of new people with Mustangs and RX-8 and Porches that sometimes give the FWD guys a bit of a hard time and then find themselves not even keep up in PAX.

AutoX is a driver's respect not a show of power.

Totally different cars... I'm sure the Cobalt would leave the SVT chewing up a mouthful of dust in a straight line.

The Focus- and especially the SVT version- kicks the crap out of a lot of "faster" cars in a road course.

Also since it was the same driver, he's probably more used to his own car; nonetheless its great to see our cars excelling at what they do best!

^^It has a lot more to do with the course setup. He is used to his car but then again, he is an amazing driver none the less in any car he gets in. FWD, AWD, and RWD.
The SS Cobalt will probably take the focus out on a road course.
I thought it was a really cool video he did with a great comparison. The SS when around the course about the same even with the added power.

The cobalt doesn't even have real independent rear suspension, it has a twist-beam rear axle. That's why it has to make it up with more power.

You can see how much more relaxed the SVT driver was, I'm surprised since wasn't the SS supposed to the be the fastest FWD around the 'ring?

Per the OP, its the same driver in each frame. Also note that the SVT had race tires and the SS was on street tires. Rcomps are good for 2 seconds in most cases :D

^^opps didn't catch that. Well then you can still see him fighting the SS more than the svt. The SVT looks like it's going so smoothly through the turns, where in the SS he's fighting more with under steer and such.
