I love the powershift because it's like I have the option of 3 different transmissions at any given time. Used to use the manual shifter at first, but now split between regular and sport modes.

So far, so good here ... the sport mode is a lot of fun and the shifts while in that mode are great. I was initially getting frustrated with the shifting in "drive", but now appreciate it as my option to use when taking the gas mizer approach to driving.

I have a slope in my driveway and appreciate the hill start assist feature often. Also, slipping the tranny into sport when decelerating off the interstate and dropping a gear with select shift has been a brake saving technique / feature I enjoy.

I use this as well!

Speaking of slowing down... am I supposed to downshift - or just let the tranny do it myself? Because SelectShift is great for accelerating. But I find that while decelerating quickly (3rd-->2nd, 2nd-->1st) the shifting gets REALLY choppy/noisy if I left the transmission control it - but if I control it, I often do it too early downshift as it downshifts causing it to double-downshift. Sometimes I just shift it into drive when I brake because it's smoother.

Anyone else getting this?

It's not so much a shutter as it is a loud clunk /crunch when quickly downshifting to 1st. Shall I post a video?

I have only owned and driven automatics and so far am not having any issues with the transmission. It feels indistinguishable from when I have ridden in manuals, haven't learned to drive a stick...

I am not one to stomp on the gas anyways, other than when merging into traffic getting on the highway, or passing someone.

But truthfully, I haven't noticed anything to give me alarm with the car.

Now my 2000 Focus seemed to always hesitate between 2nd and 3rd gear, and my '03 seemed to do that to some degree as well.

Acceleration with my '12 wasn't as fast as I would like when getting on the highway at first, but I learned to just press down on the gas more. Seeing as how my previous Focus had 260,000+ miles on it, everything is so much nicer, I could be missing an issue that is simply much better than what I had before.

That would be great. I don't recall any clunk / crunching on my FF, even when driving somewhat agressively with downshifts into the 5K RPM range.

I got a video from my phone, it's pretty noisy. Let me try using Audacity or something to filter the noise out and make it more noticeable before I upload it.

Is it alright to do engine braking like that often?
