Unless you get out on 10 or 20 in West Texas your not likely to see 85 mph speed limits while on Texas highways.

Getting rid of the night speed limits is going to be the best thing they have done in a while.

I disagree, there are always going to be people abusing the speed limit just like Joe pointed out. Heck I also am a +5mph driver sometimes, like the trip to Austin. Now when driving around town and to work I obey the limits.....now but only cause I don't want a speeding ticket. I guess call it the old man factor, I'm getting older so I'm driving slower .

Also I doubt it'll pass due to the recent (but expected and your an idiot if you didn't expect it to go up or complain about it, we knew it was going to happen yrs ago) jump in gas prices.

TxDOT has already said this will not apply this to any existing roads, but possibly to future projects that are designed to handle the higher speeds(materials, textures, turn grades and angles, etc., etc.).

I lived in SoCal for just long enough to know that being a +5 driver only applies to the slow lane, lol. You do less than +15 in the fast lane and even the cops will run You down.

And all of our toll roads. I am just glad I have an EZ tag or I wouldn't even bother taking them.

I agree, never understood why they have Day and Night speed here in TX. Especially out in West heading towards El Paso.

If the speed changes it will be the major interstates outside of large populations. Ex, the speed limit in Houston is 60 but right outside Houston the limit is 70. Pollution and idiots are the cause, once out on the interstate it's less an issue due to the sharp decline in the amount of vehicles traversing the road, and morons have more space to be stupid.

Ex, the Autoban is speed free for the most part but during peak hours and around cities there is a speed limit enforced to protect the idiots that take to the roads at 8 am and 5 pm. But at night the limit is raised to ∞.

In the Houston metroplex you will most likely see no change to the limit due to emission regulations and red tape, but trips to San Antonio will be a blast!
