Any thoughts on the new Pontiac G6?

Well, whatcha think, good or bad let's hear it. I'll start. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looks compared to what you traditionally think of when someone says "Pontiac" which is: ugly plastic crap tacked on and a busy interior with lots of gray plastic and orange gauges. The G6 (the Grand Am replacement, BTW) has a nice clean exterior with NO stuff tacked onto it. The interior looks like a MAJOR step up, although they insist on sticking with the orange-glow gauges.

I like the fact that they all come standard with a V6 now, no more wimpy-ass four-cylinder models. The higher-performance models come later, but the V6 in the "base" model is still good for 7.9 seconds to 60. Not bad. Comes with 17" wheels, optional 18's. Leather seats that look a lot like the Recaro's in the SVT Euro Focus. I can't believe I'm saying this but if the car turns out to be decent, the performance version with the 240hp engine might be something I would consider replacing my Focus with in a couple of years, once they get the bugs worked out of it. First Pontiac I could say that about in a long time.

Has anyone else even noticed this car exists? I'm guessing this could be one of those nice "GM rental sleepers" that's faster and better handling than people expect.

I saw a commercial for it a few weeks ago. I'd like to see one in person. I thought the double moonroof thing (or at least that's what it looked like to me) was pretty weird. I'm just glad they are finally getting rid of the Grand Am.

I recently checked the specs of it and I must say for the price you pay, you get a LOT. It definetly has good styling and looks. I like the sunroof feature, very unique. The interior is very modern and expensive looking. I *thought* by the commercial it was like some super performance model of the GTP (cuz it looks even better than the Gran Prix), but it's a wimpy 200hp model. I personally think it's a nice car for the price.

I forgot about the sunroof, that is pretty cool. Something I like about the Scion tC also.

Yeah, it was definitely time for the Grand Am to go, it was getting to be like the Cavalier, around for way too long! 200hp isn't THAT wimpy, although I admit for a V6 it's not a lot either. That's why I'm more interested in how the one with the 3.9L HO engine performs. Handling should be a lot better than the Grand Am since it's based on the new platform shared with Saab/Opel and others.

I drove a COMP-G around a track last month, and I was very impressed by it, off the line and also in corners. the interior is lightyears ahead of GM interiors from 3 years ago
