Just bought a 2012 SE today. Manual. The computer started at 28.2 and has climbed as I've driven. Most of my ride today was suburb driving. By the time I got home I was at 28.7 per the computer. Judging by the gauge it seemed to be getting less than that but I should probably wait and do a fill test. Did anyone else notice the computer starting low and building from there?

My day's journey is complete. All highway from Woodland, CA to Palo Alto, CA - 40mpg average. Thereafter, went to Pacifica, CA, the San Francisco Zoo and had to drive through San Fracisco on return trip home. So; highway - city - highway, returned home with 36.6mpg average.

I calculate my mileage the old way, and I have to, it's an S, no readout. On my 3rd tank, it came to 28.5mpg. That is mostly city, and I'm flooring it when I feel like it, so I'm not really trying to save gas.

For what it's worth, on my two tanks the readout has been pretty inaccurate compared to the old fashioned hand calculation.

Tank 1: Readout said 32.5, I got 31.0
Tank 2: Readout said 33.0, I got 36.7

Yet another case of old-school being better than new-school!

As it's pretty hard to fill the tank to the same level of fullness each time, my bet is that the mpg monitor is more accurate for a single tank than a hand calculation. Over a series of fill-ups the two should be pretty close, as they are in your experience so far.

Will definitely keep an eye on it over the long term, but the second tank having higher MPGs would be more accurate - first tank was about 50/50 city/highway with some idling and stop and go, while the second tank was closer to 25/75 with no stop and go.

Give it a little more time. Mine seems to get closer the more I drive it.

Really? So similar starting level, same pump, and you expect a significant variation on when the pump shuts off?

Really? Are you sure? I have an SE without the fancy LCD screen, but I still have an average MPG readout available between the tac and the speedo. Does the S model lack any screen between the two gauges?
