My 2012 Focus mpg results...
I've had my 2012 Ford Focus S Sedan for about five months; and have driven it almost 10K miles. The worst gas fill-up mpg reading I've experienced is a little over 35. Most of them have been around 40 mpg, with my highest being over 42 mpg. All this with no cruise control. I do all the little things to get my best mileage, accelerating gradually, braking gradually, coasting when possible etc. I drive around 50-55 on non-freeway routes, which have long stretches in between signal lights, and 60-65 on freeways. I hope this is helpful. I'm anxious to have cruise control installed on my car to see what kind of mpg improvement I see. Love this car.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong but I've been getting 29 mpg on my Focus SE (1month old with 1100 mi) with the Sports pkg, MT, and the 17 in wheels. I don't accelerate like a madman but I don't shift when the display tells me to do so either. I drive about 60/40 hwy/city with a few stop n go traffic daily. I was hoping to get about 35 on this car but it ain't happening. The only thing I could think of, and this I experienced with my other cars, is that for some reason I get less miles if I fill up from Costco compared to Chevron. Besides that, idk what I'm doing wrong.

When I researched my car I was hoping for a mixed bag of driving to get me about 34-35mpg. This winter during the colder weather I was barely averaging 30mpg. In the warmer weather I am around 33 mpg. Highway trips with the cruise set I am anywhere from 32-34 mpg at 70-75, @ 80 I am around 31mpg. I understand driving habits and speed play a huge factor, but I am generally disappointed in my mileage. I drive primarily highway and have seen a nice increase as it has warmed up on my commute.....but this weekend I did a pure highway trip, 400 miles round trip, no faster than 75, significant portions at only 55-60, and I got 32 round trip. Same route there and back, so any uphill there was a downhill home... 5 speed, hatchback. I have about 11k miles on it now. |

I've tried 70mph vs. 75mph and saw a difference of less than 1mpg. Can anyone concur?

Popular Mechanics carefully measured a huge 14 mpg difference between 55 and 70mph, or almost 1mpg per mph. I wish someone that bought the Scangauge would come up with a fuel consumption vs speed curve for this car. |

I have a 5 speed, so obviously your mileage may very, but anything between 65-75 mpg on the freeway alone according to the dash computer in my car is about a 1-2 mpg difference at best. This was across a couple hundred miles not a 5 minute test.
