I filled up 10.85 gallons with my odometer at 402 miles, then i filled up again last night (i reset my mpg when i filled up) at 732 miles (10.1 gallons).

My car said 31.8mpg over this period, where my calculations show 32.7mpg. I expected to get worse mpg with hand calculation, but actually better.

I do a lot of highway, but then I do a good mixture of city too. I would say 65-35 hwy/city.

Something interesting to me.. I filled up 10.1 gallons, although my car said I had like 30 miles to E. I should have had around 2 more gallons to spare, so it would have been closer to 60 miles (+/-).

Does this happen often?

I'm not 100% sure on how the distance to empty calculator works, but usually most of the Fords I've seen try to keep a gallon or two in reserve even after the needle reaches E, to both cool the fuel pump as well as to allow for a little extra range in case there isn't a pump available immediately (such as on a long interstate journey)

I posted about this a couple times at:

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278435

On my first 3 tanks I let it get down to around 15-20 miles to empty and I had around 0.8 to 1.0 gallons left in the tank. So that's just a little bit conservative, but not much. Probably could've just made it to maybe 5 or 10 miles past "0 miles to empty" but that's about it.

Others have experienced or heard of folks running out of gas before it reached 0 to E. I think you have to be careful about it over a few tanks of gas but if your car makes the same estimate consistently then you can start to trust it.

I drive in and around New York City daily. I'm getting high 30's on the highway (roughly 55mph and trips like 30 miles on highway) and in the mid 20's in Manhattan stop and go.

I took a road trip this weekend that put the Focus over 1500 miles and my MPG shot up to 37.5 mpg.

I get almost exactly 35 for each tank doing the actual math. The computer is always about 1 mpg lower than the actual mpg. I would say I drive 75/25 highway/suburban.

On the hi way my readout says 40 to 44 mpg

I fluctuate between 27.3 and 27.5, but I rarely drive more than 10 miles at a time and only 7 of those are highway. Right now I just got done with a 12 mile trip, 10 of which was on the highway, and I'm up to 27.7. 27.8 is the highest I've seen and I have 1,635 miles on the car. I really wish I could get up to the 30's that some of you get. I'm assuming it's because of the type of driving I'm doing. I hit that 27.8 mark on a 18 mile drive on the parkway doing about 45 - 50 mph. I really want to see the higher mpg but maybe with my driving habits it just won't happen. Any ideas?

After my last 5 fuel ups this is what my real world MPG has been recorded at Fuelly. I've been using Fuelly since I purchased the car.

I'm averaging 36.0 MPG on the on-board instrument panel so it looks to be pretty close to accurate for the most part.

I get between 32-35 combined, mostly highway.
I get better city because highway is 75 mph or so.
City for me is 45-55 mph.
