Mine hits 37 MPG in 70mph highway driving (no cruise control, bouncing 65-75 on our hilly terrain). All our gas has 10% ethanol.
Most of my "city" driving isn't in the city center, but that's around 30 MPG. Very pleased with the infrequent (and cheap) gas station visits. |

Ethanol blend gas is sh** in my opinion. But unfortunately almost all gas stations in the U.S. use it now.
One thing I dislike on the Focus is the small 12.4 gallon tank. My 2011 Fiesta had the same size gas tank but it got better mileage. A larger tank such as a 14 gallon would've been better on the Focus IMO. |

Nah they are all the same. Unless you got leather and MyFord/MyTouch, the SE and SEL have pretty much no difference. I work at a dealership and see them everyday. I have an SE and it has everything the SEL does with the exception being ambient lighting.

In an effort to get a handle on how close I'm getting to EPA estimates, I wanted to get more precise about how to be calibrated to City vs Highway expectations. So I really wanted to figure out what is city and what is highway driving as defined by the EPA. Quick search revealed this article.
LINK --> Truth about EPA City vs Highway From that you will see that one of the many variables is that City driving produced 21 mph and Highway driving produced 48 mph. From here, I wanted to create a table that helped me understand the percentage of city driving (one of the inputs in Fuelly) for different average mph's driven. ![]() In my last fill-up, I had an average speed about 28 mph (hand calculated from the trip computer - miles divided by hours on the trip computer). Per the table, this is 75% City. My actual fuel economy on that tank (E10 87 Octane) was 28 MPG and the table I created indicates that I should have expected 26.6 MPG (my E10 table assumes a 10% MPG penalty). So, I'm 1.4 MPG better than expected at about 1,000 miles on the clock. I attribute this to 40 PSI in the tires and a light foot on the accelerator. I'm going to see if this table holds up using average MPH as a proxy of % of City driving. |

I do that every time I fill up, trip 1 is for current fill up and trip 2 is for average lifetime. I'm not hoping for much improvement really, not that I can blame the car either, it's just how it is around here.

Over the weekend I drove my Titanium 805 miles with snow tires. Almost all highway. I passed slightly more cars on the highway than passed me. My mpg per the car was 34.4 my mpg per two gas fill ups was 36.6. I am not sure why such a big difference.
On the trip I hit 20,000 miles. Car ran great!!! |
