Been trying to granny drive for the past few weeks, at times I have lost patience and had to open up and have fun, but the car is still showing 36.2 after 220 miles. I can't wait to see what happens after the first oil change.

Updates.

2nd tank with 40 - 50 % in town, balance highwy = 31.7 mpg
3rd tank with 90 % highway = 35.5
4th tank with 90 % highway = 34.7
5th tank with 90 % highway = 36.8

I drive at about 70 mph on the highway.

I'm over 1200 miles in 8 days of ownership. Very pleased with the milage and car. I expect I'll get better milage in the summer months.

We've not been on the highway but for stop and go, to and from work mainly, my wife is averaging 30.5 mpg (2400 miles on the odometer). As a comparison, around town, my 11 Fiesta 5-speeed is averaging 37-38 mpg. It gets as high as 44 mpg on the highway (17,500 miles on the odometer).

I've heard from more than one person that the Fiesta gets really good in town mileage if driven reasonably.

I'm at 23.5 MPG lifetime average at the moment. I live in a place where there's a stoplight on each block -.- If I do highway driving to Washington however then it's pretty easy for me to hit almost 39 MPG trip average. The car only has 960 miles on it so I hope it goes up (city wise) after a few more tanks of gas.

Same here in SoCal 4-6 stop lights per mile, each with left turn arrow lanes as well. Working on my second tank and averaging 21 MPG. Will update as I put more miles on my car.

Mpgomatic finally did a test on the Focus:

http://www.mpgomatic.com/2011/12/28/...chback-review/

The tester apparently didn't know either that the rear seats can fold completely flat, so I left a comment about that.

Also a couple of things. The 6 speed autos get a lot of flack in roadtests/reviews. The testers really need to test ones that have at least 1000 miles and have a transmission that is broken in. Also wondering about the varying 0-60 mph times reviewers get. Don't see how any of them are getting these 9+ sec 0-60 mph times while other reviews I've seen are getting in the low 7's to low 8's seconds range.

I have an SE with the 6 speed auto so it has the same EPA estimates. I haven't had the oppurtunity to take a roadtrip yet or a long (over 1 hour) highway drive yet to see what I'd average on the hwy. But think I will have no problem hitting the EPA hwy of 37 mpg. Sure the Focus might not hit the 40 mpg mark, but even if i only hit the 37 mpg estimate, it's much better than the 25-26 mpg hwy I used to get on roadtrips in my 2006 Dodge Magnum.

Cool article and video. I think that 39 mpg on the highway is spectacular.
