My commute is like 92% highway, it only drops on days I drive my wife to work as well. Even then it is just a few miles of non-highway in the opposite direction of my work, then that same distance added to my higway driving. Most of the driving I do I can for the most part avoid dealing with traffic lights, and I am just not stomping on it, but not babying the acceleration either.

My worst fuel economy is in the morning when I am getting to the highway, it starts plummeting, but by the time I drive to work and back home later in the day the average is all the way back up.

I have also been using Cruise Control as much as possible. Even on regular streets. Set it to 30, cancel as I approach a light, slow slowly for a red, re-engage if the light goes green. Accelerate 1/2 way back up to speed using the gas pedal from a stop then re-engaging cruise to get back up to speed.

As for the LRR tires, yes in a sense. Tirerack has some LRR winter tires I have been eying, but regardless I am definitely looking at putting winter tires on her one way or another.

I only have 2500 miles on her, so I'll see if the economy improves. In the break in period I was using Cruise control, but alternated turning the OD off to change the RPMS she was running at.

I got 23.5mpg on the first tank. Even mix of city and highway. Learning Sync + MFT probably didn't help either. I filled up for the 2nd tank with 45 mi to go and the car took less than 10 gal.

I am getting an average of 36mpg mostly highway miles. I've gotten well over 40 on open back roads keeping the speed down to under 65mph. The best I got was, I had a brand new 2012 Focus SEL rental in Colorado, coming out of Eisnhower tunnel headed toward Denver on I-70, I reset the mpg and it spun up to 99.9 mpg and stayed there for about 15 miles!

hmm...mine is averaging around 28mpg with 50/50 hwy/city and over 1200miles on it.

I did just notice a couple days ago that on an 81 degree day with all the windows shut and the A/C turned OFF, the car stayed nice and cool inside and the vents were blowing cold air.

Taking it to the dealer soon to have that looked at.

A/C off and cold air? Sounds like your car runs on magic.

(MPG = Magic per gallon. Anyone else watch the FocusDoug videos?)

I've had my new Focus about 7 weeks and finally made my first road trip of any significance. Drove 245 miles on mostly 4 lane divided highway (No Interstate - 55-60 MPH speed limit most of the way), through about a dozen small towns (stop and go) and then some in-town traffic during rush hour at my destination. When I got home, my trip odometer showed 41.5 mpg. I filled up when I got home and the calculated mpg was 41.1 - Not too bad at all !!!

Week long road-trip in Northern Michigan putting about 1500 miles overall with 80% being highway. 2/3's of hwy was rural 55mph statue routes and the rest Interstate at 72mph. Got about 38MPG overall with my best tank calculated at 41.0 MPG even (the display read 40.1). I almost got 500 miles on the tank (497) but I was at the last gas station for 30 miles out in the boonies. I got 12.15 gallons in. DTE said 3 miles so it must be pretty accurate! Probably just running on the fuel in the lines. GREAT ride and this is the first long trip with no sore back in years.

Just got my second fillup today. My first fillup I got something like 31.5 MPG (manually calculated), and it fairly well matched the dashboard computer. I reset it at that point.

Today I got my second tank of gas, which manually calculated to 35.8 (I double checked this , so I am sure it is correct), but the computer said approx. 32..... Weird. I don't really care, I am happy camper with 35.8!
