City is where fuel economy tends to really suffer, so the way to fight back against the hybrid crowd is to show how good the fuel economy can be in a regular gasoline based car.

When I see 40+ miles per gallon when sticking to 60MPH for highway, and 50+ when driving 32-42mph due to no traffic lights and stop signs, that shows a lot of potential, and start/stop would improve the city fuel economy enough to really get a lot of positive publicity for Ford.
The sad truth of this is that Start/Stop tech doesn't make a big enough difference on the EPA test to help sell cars. The EPA fuel mileage testing includes only one stop, I think for three seconds. If only traffic lights really worked that well ...

The other bummer about it is that the focus engine is a perfect candidate for the S/S tech. With dual variable valve timing and ignition combined with direct injection, the engine starts easier, heats up faster, and doesn't need to spray excess fuel to do it.

I took a trip of 215 miles in the Fillmore/Ventura Harbor in CA. I averaged 35 MPG's and saw 39.1 MPG on a long straight stretch of road at 55-60 MPH. In city traffic I see 26-27 MPG's regularly. My Focus has 2200 miles on it.

I did a stretch going between Jacksonville to Gainesville (FL), I got over 40 mpg! I wasn't going very fast (between 30-50 mph) but there were almost no stops.

There are 49 2012 Ford Focuses with reported gas mileage parked at Fuelly
http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/focus/2012

I am averaging about 34 MPG combined after about 1000 miles (66% highway driving).
Car's calculation is only .1 MPG different from hand calculation.

When I come up to a light that just turned red, and it has controlled turns.. (so it is even LONGER than normal) I shut the car off.
Or at a rail crossing.. off. At the bank window, off.
Just a habit.

Make it 50. Well, lets say there will be 50 reporting once I enter my 1st fuel-up.

I'm really curious how close my car's estimates are to that at Fuelly. I'd love for it to be .1 as yours is, so I can be confident using it.

My first few fill-ups reported less than my manual calculations. My last one was dead-on-balls accurate, though.

I just signed up and filled up for the first milage recording.

I go through a tank every 3 days, so should have to fill again on Sunday, so I can have my first mpg calculation on the site.

I wonder if I am the only one on there driving a SFE?

I am PUMPED! went to dealer bought car from 60 mi away to cancel Ford ESP warranty due to price etc..
I reset the miles/gal for return and got an average of 42mpg the total distance, including in city after return.

THIS was one of the reasons i gave myself to go ahead and buy a new car.. have to get 40mpg..
