I also want to add I've done a little testing with fuel octanes; 10% ethanol 87 and ethanol free 91. I get at least 4mpg better with the ethanol free 91. It may cost a little more when I fill up, but it actually saves me about $2.00 per tank.

I have wondered about the effect of using premium gas. In the past if the compression ratio for the engine was 10 to 1 or higher you needed premium. The Focus ratio is 12 to 1 so I was surprised that premium wasn't required. Guess with all the computer management of the engine they can adjust for it.

A 4 mpg improvement may offset the additional cost of premium gas. I will need to check that. Thanks for the information.

Good luck using premium. Nobody seems to be able to get confirmed better mileage to justify the extra cost.

Burned two tanks now city driving. Hot, A/C running. 28 then 29 mpg.

After 7 tanks & 2760 miles, my overall average is 36.3 MPG (about 80% hwy - - I-65 with some ups & downs). Mileage is improving as I rack up the miles - - last 2 tanks over 38 MPG.

Just make sure it's ethanol free. Ethanol does not get the same fuel economy as gasoline. I'm not sure all stations use ethanol free 91 octane, but the gas station I go to they have a sign taking up the entire bottom half of the door advertising it. It should also say at the pump.

I'm confirming better mileage in my car. ETHANOL FREE is the key.

Wow! Must be nice to have like 3 ethanol-free gas stations near Buffalo, NY!

I have to drive at least 60 miles round trip to get to the nearest ethanol-free gas station... not worth it

That sucks. My station is only two blocks from my house.

I can't remember the last time I saw a unleaded gas pump that didn't have the words
"10% Ethanol" on it.
