going to be filling up today after the car is done at the dealership with the MFT update. its got the most KM's i have ever driven to a tank, hopefully its better than the 7.3 avg i have been getting.

i must say for a drive that is mainly highway everyday, im not getting nearly the mileage i thought i would be getting.

Getting lousy gas mileage on my new 2012 SFE. City about 18 mpg, highway about 23 mpg. I have had it for two weeks, put 350 miles on it so far.

my dads 2012 auto se is getting 39 mpg idk exactly how many miles, I would guess about 2000-3500. and Sheila don't worry when ours was still new it was at like 24 mpg, once you get more miles it will figure out the correct mpg.

Well, that's good news! Thank God for this forum, I was about to get back to the dealer. I traded a 1999 Eldorado for this Focus --- believe it or not, that car was not so bad on gas, but it took premium. I was really looking forward to lots of gas savings.

First day of Driving to work (I was on vacation the week I took delivery): 39 MPG!

Details: 20 miles each way: 3 city, 7 country road (55 mph), 10 miles Highway 60 to 70mph)

I spoke to a friend of mine that worked on the Transmission in the Focus, about the break-in period. He said that the vehicles Ford gives to the EPA for testing are "new" with 5 miles on them. There is no longer any noticeable break-in period like years ago...

First, it is up to the manufacturer to test the vehicle per EPA standards and provide the data to the EPA. The EPA then samples about 10-15% of the models tested to verify the results.

Second, the manufacturer is not required to test a representation of every single model they produce. They only need to test a sample from the weight class, transmission class, and the basic engine. So, if a manufacturer has two models of car that fall into the same weight class, transmission type, and use the same engine, they only need test one of them.

Third, unless you drive in a similar manner to the EPA dynamometer test sequence, these mileage posts are pretty much worthless. There is a reason the EPA actually provides a wide range of fuel economy numbers for each model of vehicle.

500 miles into my SE 5-speed hatch, I get 40-42 on the highway going 70-75, 30-32 in the city. It drops under 30 pretty quickly if I try to have any fun.

2012 Titanium mpg

My Focus have 2500Km so far. Average city and highway after a full tank is 31,36mpg (7.5 L/100km) so far. Getting better and better. I'll post again after 5000km break in. No sports mode, easy on acceleration and not faster than 100km/h... AC on all the time.
