Hey guys.

I don't have my Focus yet , but the SE hatch I test drove last month had very bad MPGs when I got in. But only after 3 miles of me driving (not a speed-happy dealer), I was able to boost MPGs from 18.2 to 18.8. I feel very confident that I'll average a combined MPG of 33-34.

Of course, I'll post as soon as I start driving the thing...but I have to get it first!

I just picked up my 2012 SEL Hatch last night and averaged a little over 38 mpg (according to the trip computer, haven't run the numbers with the gas tank yet) but I'm very happy with 38 so far. The drive home was roughly 40 miles 70mph expressway and 75 miles of 55mph highway and driving normaly at the speedlimits. Dropping down a few mph would definitely peg it over 40. Can't wait to see how it does after breakin

24 Mile Drive - Terrain Hilly for 16 miles and flatish for 8 Miles

Speed limit 55 MPH

2008 - MT - SE - 40K miles = 50MPG
2012 - AT - SEL - 400 Miles = 48MPG

I averaged 31-35 MPG with the 2008 and now I am getting around 31.6 on the 2012.

Nice research and comparison. Sounds like the 2012 is doing great considering the boost in HP and weight.

Bought my 2012 SE two weeks age. 28.5 MPG on a tank with half being highway miles (299 miles on 10.5 gallons). Right now I am not very happy. My display hasn't shown higher than 31 MPG in over 600 miles. 99% of all driving miles are suburb or highway driving.

I drive a 2009 SE Coupe and when I first got the car I got roughly 27MPG average with 75% highway and 25% city driving. Now that it's thoroughly broken in I am getting a solid 30MPG with the same kinds of driving. Although I could possibly get more if I didn't have such a lead foot.

My point, if you want good gas mileage you have to drive to achieve it as well as wait for your car to break-in. City driving kills MPG, if you're doing lots of it vs. highway driving, that explains it.
