Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but aren't a lot of these figures car-calculated (dash readout) figures? And especially with these daily figures, it's not the full tank average but the "instant" (which I understand the car to mean its cumulative average) readout?

I hand calculate each tank (filling up with same pump), logging that and the car's reading, have done so for 2+ years. Despite clutch replacement, numerous reprogrammings, seasons, I've found the car to be off by up to 4 mpg (in either direction, seemingly randomly), though mostly in the 1.5 mpg-off range (favoring the appearance of better mpg). I've had the day-brightening 38-42 mpg (exclusive hwy driving) dash reading ... but later found it was, to put it politely, overly optimistic.

I log everything for my car in a notebook, I haven't calculated it recently, but I've found that for the most part the dash reading is pessimistic.

I have found MY in car dash readout to be very accurate. There is a variation between dash reading and tank fill measurement on each tank but when averaged over many tanks the difference is less than 1%.

Note that to average the dash readings you can't do a simple average of the MPG you must take the dash reading then calculate the gallons used for that tank then calculate the total miles divided by the total gallons calculated.

In my case, the average mpg figured over 14,434 miles is 37.89 based on tank filling and over the same distance the dash reading average is 37.71 or a difference of 0.49% -- not bad if you ask me.

The main thing that causes the tank variation between filling and dash reading is the amount of gas you refill as that can easily vary by 0.5 gallon or even more, but over time the tank fill error goes away and the two readings agree pretty well.

So, all-in-all I'm pretty happy with the accuracy of the dash reading.

I find my mileage a little on the crappy side. I've been logging it in fuelly since September.

I have found he dash display to be accurate over an extended period. As mentioned earlier, individual fills can be influenced by the speed of the pump, air temperature etc. but over a longer period the display and the fill calculation almost agree for my car

Interesting, so are you saying that you've been seeing your best mileage running at 60mph? If that's the case I'll gladly drop my speed down 5mph!
Those numbers are based on using up a full or almost full tank of gas..

I bought OEM wheels a few weeks ago and replaced the steelies. My MPG is up to 37 on my current tank! I'm going on the highway later, hopefully I can lower it even more.

Well, so far so good. I'm still driving at 60mph for my daily 100 mile commute, and I'm currently holding at 35mpg (up from 33mpg). Hopefully it keeps on going up from here!!

Random driving around town anywhere between 25 to 32 mpg .. Long highway trips 35 to 39... Just drove round trip from Mass to Maine 168 miles and back with a little driving around for a total of 350 or so and did it on 3 quarters of a tank speed was between 65 to 80 most of the ride ... The car gives exactly the gas milage promised .. I could not be happier .. I went from a jeep wrangler that got 16 to 21 mpg all the time .. So the focus is perfect...
