Posted before getting 22mpg combined. Finally did long highway trip and reset computer every time I switched from city to highway (after deducing that my computer is pretty accurate). I AVERAGED 38 highway, over 200 miles. yay, my 2012 Focus isn't entirely broken, but side-street/city jaunts average like 19mpg -- that's what has been pulling my combined down.
I think this should help diagnose the problem? I use very little A/C, trying to stay in lower end of higher gear, etc.

I just bought a 2012 Focus SE with Winter Package and Sync. Loving it so far, after one week and about 1/2 tank of gas, it saying my average is 30mpg. This is on hilly mountain terrain, mostly city driving, about 1/4 interstate.

I have the manual Tranny, not sure if that will make a difference, it's not rated any differently.

Good to hear you followed the suggestion and got the predicted results. So the answer is simply that you have a particularly severe city commute.

Well, just a quiet little suburb area and a not-very-busy business district. I avoid any rush hour stuff. I got the posted EPA in my Saab, driving around same area.

The car is my wife's daily driver, and she is not a fanatic about mpg, but she does have a job which puts her on the road quite a bit. Lately she is driving about a 65 mile commute to work (each way). As I post this, the car is still quite new, and should improve after a good break-in period. I will keep the data current so the link will be useful for future reference.

If anyone is interested, here is my old Saturn after 75 fill-ups:

Yeah that is a bit of a puzzler. But I bet your 38mpg on the highway blows the Saab away. Gotta take the bad with the good.

man you guys are getting some amazing mileage. i'm at 2400kms so far on my car, averaging 9L/100kms with a mix of city highway. i'd say 70% city 30% highway.

that works out to 20-21 mpg. my tires are at 34psi and i'm using shell 91.

I'm getting 30 MPG pure city driving it easy, 25MPG when I drive it more aggressively. Highway is 40 mpg @ 70 mph of course this changes depending on weather the A/C is on or off. I have about 32,000 Km on it now.
