I would think that a 6 speed could compensate for 75, but I'll take this reading over the previous one. I still haven't cracked 1k miles yet so I believe it'll work itself out over time. I'll be doing a manual calculation soon to see how it matches up.
55-65MPH Is going to be your most economical cruising speed. Having a 6 speed will only help to a point, it takes more energy to push a car at 75mph than at 60mph... and that energy comes from gasoline.

My first tank fill came out to 36.5 mpg where the computer said 31....awesome either way. I am a very happy customer. $40 to fill compared to my Tacoma at $70 and that got 19 mpg....

Overall, I managed 4.58 l/100km, or about 52 US mpg.

90% highway, always going to the speed limit (100km/h, 62mph)
When going down hill, I would slowly accelerate to about 110km/h (almost 70mph), then release the gas pedal and let it coast (in gear, so you get the effects of the fuel cutoff), then give it gas again when it hit 95km/h. No drafting , and no driving under the speed limit. And yes, I used the same pump as the previous fillup, and even filled it to 3 clicks since I didn't believe it at first (last fillup I only went to 1 click)

Needless to say I am very happy. 1600km about on the engine now.
Well, I think you now hold the world record for hypermiling in a 2012 Focus. It's one thing to average in the 40's while cruising down the freeway, but to actually fill up a tank with 52 MPG, and not imperial gallons is far beyond breathtaking. Far....

Nah, there really wasn't much hypermiling involved. Going the speed limit is just common sense (62-65mph is not even the best for mpg, it's something like 50mph), and I even went above it a few times to pass people. As for the coasting thing, I actually got that idea from these forums when someone mentioned that the engine will shutoff all fuel if you coast x speed with your foot off the gas for more than 3 seconds. I even had my window and sunroof open for the trip on the highway, and that is a big no-no with hyper milers.

Hyper-milers are a completely different breed. They will usually travel along at the cars most efficient speed, despite the speed limit ( usually around 45-50mph in 65-70 speed limit zone), will draft behind trucks, and even shut off their engine/power while coasting.. Which I am pretty sure is illegal and dangerous.

I read some of their reviews though, and they have corolla's with the 2.4engine (not even the more efficient 1.8) getting over 65 US mpg.

I just wanted to see what the focus could do in more realistic highway cruising speeds. One thing I do suggest though is not using the cruise unless you have a very heavy foot.

I'm averaging 27-30 city and 34-37 highway depending on how I drive. Actually got as high as 42 mpg once locking the cruise in at 65 mph and taking the most traffic-free route to work... and this is all with less than 1000 miles on the odometer so I'm nowhere near broken-in numbers yet, therefore I foresee sweeter figures in the future. This is right on par with the window sticker numbers for my Select-Shift equipped Sport already so I'm super stoked already.

you all are making me jealous with these numbers.. my first tank was 26.7 and my last was 31.3 and I currently have 1300 miles.. which isnt bad considering my f150 was getting 15.3.. I think having the factory 18's dont help it out much :/

Would the 18"s really hurt the MPGs that much?! The window sticker is 27/37, so an average anywhere in there would be acceptable to me.

Good question, I would assume they do cause they are a nice size wheel compared to the se base wheels that is rated the same MPG

On the window sticker under the MPG numbers it states Expected range for most drivers 22 to 32 MPG and 30 to 44 MPG. I suppose this takes into account driving style, maintenance and add to that wheel size, terrain, weather and other variables Ford cannot control. I haven't been on any extended freeway trips since the first weekend, but I'm impressed with my 30+ city/highway average with ∼475 miles on the car.

Well that's odd. My window sticker is listed at 27 city, 37 hwy with expected ranges between 22 to 32 for city, and 30 to 44 for hwy.

Here's my sticker: http://fordlabels.webview.biz/webvie...hp3n20cl154954
