The BEST advice is to get a manual transmission. :)

I purchased a 2010 Ford focus 9 months ago. I've been hearing the same noise as everyone else on here has been referencing, but when I took it to a Ford dealership, they made me feel like I was hearing things,.. basically treated me like a dumb blonde.

Please someone tell me that this problem is fixable?

My suggestion, as a Ford Service Advisor, is to go for a ride with the technician and point out exactly the noise. He might not know what to listen for and when to listen for it. I heard the noise when I owned the 2010 and it didn't happen all the time and it's hard to duplicate at times.

I just purchased a used (one owner) 2011 focus s with manual transmission. The test drive went okay. Now, that I have had the car a few days I'm noticing a knocking noise when I start the engine. It's like something bangs the underside of the car. once the engine is started there is no knock. I'm wondering if this could be the transmission mount?

The other thing I have noticed is a vibration shifting into second gear, at around 2,000 rpm. This has happened only once or twice in any other gear.

Has anyone else with a 2010/2011 manual noticed these issues? Purchased from a non-Ford dealer. Will a Ford dealer inspect these issues for me? ford customer service is welcome to comment.

Sounds to me like the bottom mount is at fault.

Thanks, mac.mogul. How long should that take and how much to replace?

Well, you could upgrade to a better piece and install it yourself for about $100

A dealership will likely charge you double-triple that amount...

This would be OE Replacement
http://focus.c-f-m.com/fordlowerengi...fordfocus.aspx

And this would be an upgraded piece
http://focus.c-f-m.com/cfmlowerengin...0-10focus.aspx

I'm sure there are many people who can comment on the quality of the upgrade vs the standard piece. I'm looking to upgrade soon as well.

ranger97 - for that noise, also check "simple" things like exhaust & heat shields.

something loose, bent, missing hanger etc. is a common cause for that type of noise.
