I have a few bikes. I race bmx, but I also mess around on trails and skateparks. I have a united street bike (custom, just the frame is united). I also have an Avent race bike which is custom. Both of them are worth more than my car. hahaha I have a Gary Fisher mt. bike. I dont ride that nearly as much as my bmx bikes but it is still fun! I also took my old race frame (an S&M) and turned it into a bike for my girlfriend.

Used to Mountain Bike frequently when I lived in AZ, i miss my mountain bike

This advice is right on for mountain biking, also i would recommend a good size camelback as well, if your anything like me 3 liters will only last about 5-7 miles of hard riding.

Look for a helmet with lots of ventilation, and some fingerless gloves for summer like Fox digits. The first time you eat it on a rocky trail you will be happy about the gloves, I learned the hard way. I also learned to carry an extra tube and patch kit the hard way. Specialized pumps are good and can be rebuilt also Joe Blow I hear is good.

mtbr.com is a good site

Also no biking in boxer shorts

get some chamois shorts so the twig and berries feel a little better after a long ride! They can be expensive though
