Back to the question that matters (as opposed to the discussion of ATX/MTX looking like what or performace how - and yes, I own an ATX):

What are you purchasing and hooking up exactly when relocating the O/D button?

I too dislike the stock knob but don't want to mess with omitting the O/D. I realize it's on by default but since I don't know what the future holds I'd much rather make it available....and better looking.

Also, I've been hesitant in cutting the shift tube. Apparently easiest way is to simply cut it shorter. So, cut metal tube & shifter rod from where now (bottom near console/top near knob)? From the looks of it my 2002 ZX3 has a very hard black plastic, not the metal, so it may be a little easier to cut.

I've been searching around: anyone have suggestions for a nice knob fitting the ATX?

I saw a few sites that sell momentary switches for the O/D button: this look right?

I prefer some thing like

where it also illuminates, but the plug-in is different. Where can I order a momentary switch for my o/d relocation?

It does make performance more convenient though. When I did mine I also removed the "catch" that stops the shifter from moving into 2nd from drive without pushing the button. I also noted that when the shifter remains in drive, the transmission shifts gears at 6000RPM whereas if you shift manually through the gears the rev limiter is set to 6500RPM so you get an "extra" 499RPM to use in each gear. Not a huge difference but you can notice the extra ease in which 2nd gear picks up if you pay attention. It is equivalent to about 3MPH extra in each gear. So, it does not INCREASE performance; it merely makes using the performance more convenient and it looks a HELL of a lot better. Morons who try to act like they have manuals should have bought a manual. I personally put mine in neutral when slowing down from about 15MPH or when sitting still because it makes braking easier. Do I try to "roll back" or whatever? NO. That looks stupid because anyone with half a brain can realize from any number of clues that you have an automatic and usually anyone you may be trying to impress is going to be smart enough to know you're just being stupid. Anyway, I recommend this mod as an essential for anyone who owns an automatic.
Wouldnt that eventually screw up your trans? I did that in my old sonata on hills after reading about hypermiling, and pretty soon the cel came on and my trans startin dyin
If Im wrong, thatd probably save me a ton of gas

Uhh yeah, I dont understand why people use an auto for a manual, hahaha, esp on a weak ass Focus auto tranny. Get a performance transmission that allows you to manual shift the auto gear box when racing. And why the hell would you remove the catch, its there for a reason, so u dont mess up the tranny from accidently hitting the shifter outta gear. And the catch isnt always on, sometimes you can downshift just by pushing the shifer up while driving, when you are able to do that then its safe to do that.

Can anyone help me out this this switch deal? I saw a few that I would go for at AutoZone but again, the plug is different. Is there a way to get around that or is there a spot where a wider variety of these switches are sold??

Saw this at AutoZone site:
NOS / Momentary Push Button Switch

Can I use this for relocating my O/D button? I'm assuming I wrap 1 of 2 cables to each side..

OR even this:
Pilot Automotive / Blue Mini Rocker Switch

Just need to know if I'm looking at the right switches and how to properly hook them up. I find pics to be a better source of wtf I'm talking about.

It may be a pointless mod aside from aesthetics, but I am 6'5" and my knee hits the stock auto shifter handle, something like this thats a hell of a lot shorter and not sticking out would make it a hell of a lot more comfortable. I'm looking at doing this, thanks for the writeup.
