Just bought my SVT on saturday, registered here today

Alright, I just traded in my 96 getta for a pitch black SVT and wanted to say hi. I have found some great links on this site for doing things like deactivating the seatbelt minder, running fogs independently, etc....so looks like you guys did your homework.

I do have a few questions and I'm gonna refrain from questions on aftermarket parts for now...I have to get to know my car before I modify anything.

First, how bad is the mileage on your SVT? I'm still waiting to get an average for this week, but last week I got 17.5 MPG . Granted, the engine isn't broken in yet, I have no idea how full the tank really was, and I strongly believe that the dealer put Sheetz gas in the car...which is notorious around here for poor mileage. But I'm still used to averaging 25 MPG while beating my jetta. I've been driving the car pretty conservatively, so I hope it doesn't much worse once I start driving harder....Hopefully some synthetic oil will help things out.

Also, I believe my car may also be feeling this 'surging' effect. It is definitely noticeable, more at some times, less at others. The battery light blinked on and off once that I noticed, but I may have missed some. Plus the idle is a bit high and rough during cold starts. I understand that the SVT retards the timing at cold starts to light off the cat quickly, but I'm still curious here.

Thanks for all your help guys and girls!

Hello and welcome to the world of SVT, it is a great car.

You can expect to not get that great of mileage at first in your car, once you car gets settled in you mileage should increase, unless you are an aggressive driver, I know I' am, I love my car and high RPM's I believe from reading that other SVTF owners get between 23 to 28 mpg on average, I've read higher #'s gotton on trips.

Battery light flicker, high idle on cold start, surging while cold or hot, slow to crank, stalling, rough idle and more, these can all be fixed with the new computer reflash YRF0, TSB# 03-19-11, there is a thread in the SVT Forums available for you to read if you like about the new reflash YRF0.

Again Welcome, hope you enjoy your car like we all do.

thanks for the info...hopefully my mileage will be close to what it was in my vw.

As far as the ecu update, I found a scanned image of a report from Ford I guess, so I was gonna print that up and take it to the dealer when I have them do the first service, cuz hopefully that will be the last time I'm at the dealer. Do I just ask them to reflash the ecu, or what? Pardon my ignorance here, but my experience with other vehicles differs with these DTC's.

Welcome to the SVTF family, and welcome to the forum. I have just over 11k on my 03 ZX3 SVT, and get about 22.7 mpg as an average of both highway and city. But, I don't drive like it's a race car, and tend to be a bit conservative. I want it to last.

All of the driveability concerns you speak of are addressed with the new PCM "reflash. Call your dealer and make an appiontment for them to do the "YRFO" reflash.
I can't imagine your selling dealer putting crap gas in your car. If they are like most dealers, they have a commercial account with a gas station and fill all their vehicles, sold units, as well as demos from the same source. If they were using chit gas, as you suppose, I would imagine they would have a whole lot of pissed off customers and sales persons.

I found the tech report also, printed it and took it to my dealer, I had no problems at all. Your dealer may already have the reflash downloaded if they have reflashed other SVTF. I would just do what you say and show them the report and tell them you are having some of the problems listed and want the new reflash.

I know that I said this already but Welcome Again to the world of SVTF.
