The being "strong" question to me is super hard to answer.......
I know guys that bench just their body weight then others that do double...... but when you weigh 150 pounds its easier to do your weight than it is if your 300 pounds. Personally i think every one should be able to bench, squat and deadlift their own weight before they consider themselves strong..... because strength is relavent to the person doing the lift....... to me lifting is only about PERSONAL goals. watching people bench in the gym can be very misleading...... I did my own little experiment a couple of months ago. For chest I would do 5 sets of 10 reps wide grip and 5 more close grip.... with only 135 pounds. Then I would do wide grip and close grip pressdowns 3 sets each with around 135 pounds. after 1 month I went for my one rep max...... 335 pounds.... I believe I could have done 350 if I had a spotter.

I have never "worked out" in my life. Is there anything i could do at home that would help put muscle on. Would push up sit ups or any of that stuff help? Sorry if its a dumb question i just don't know what to do.

I guess pushups would help work your upper chest and triceps. I suppose you could even try different variants, like 1 arm, feet elevated on a chair or something. Pushups are great exercise actually. If you could do pull ups, that would help your lats and biceps. Crunches or situps would work your abs

There's all kinds of exercises you can do at home to help....
Push ups set ups crunches squats mountain climbers jumping jacks tricep dips pull ups..... The list goes on and on.....but to seriously start gaining muscle you NEED weights.

if you use protien powder, dont worry about getting a huge ammount. say a supplement can says 56g of protien for 2 scoops! only use one because your body can only digest 30g at the max

Conventional wisdom says you need at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day to gain muscle.
