Thinking about a tune

I've been on the fence about this for a while now, and I sent Tom a PM, but it doesn't look like it actually went through.

I had a few questions though (specifically about Tom's tune).

1) I'm probably going to be getting the 2012 ST sometime in the next 2 years. I know Tom offers free updates for mods, but would I also get updates for a new Focus? And how long after the ST is released would a tune be out for it?

2) I haven't done much to my Focus. It's a 2000 Focus SE automatic, with a 2.0L Zetec. I put in a K&N filter, did the "iceman clone" mod, and cut out the back of the large debris deflector. Would I benefit from a tune (performance, gas milage, etc)?

3) Is tuning relatively easy and safe, especially on an 11 year old Focus?

And that's all folks. I'm not planning any other mods for my current Focus, seeing as I'll be selling it in a year or so. But if I could use this for my current Focus as well as my next one, it would be money well spent. Thanks!

Ah, so this thread was a bit pointless then, eh?
My sent box showed no messages, so I assumed it didn't send.

Now I just have to figure out whether or not I should just wait until I get an ST, or go for it now and enjoy the tune for about a year.

Would a tune on my current Focus really offer $150 worth of improvement? I'm planning on getting one for the ST, regardless, so the only additional cost would be for the new tune. If I get it now, I'd pay $150 for the new tune for the ST. So, would a tune improve the driving experience enough to warrant the extra $150 out of pocket?

The ST is not available in any form yet. In order for us to add support we have to have a vehicle or processor. Once that happens I would expect at least 6 months before tuning support is available. This may or may not require new hardware meaning if you buy something now you may or may not be able to use it on the ST.

So, I would say worrying about the ST right now should be the least of your concerns. Get a tune for what you have now.

It may require different hardware for the tune on the ST? That would end up being an extra $400 just because I wanted a tune for the car I'm going to be selling within the next two years.
How likely is it that I'd have to buy new hardware?

We do not know yet. Until we have a car or processor it's too difficult to tell what will be needed hardware wise. We should be able to get it added to current hardware but these new processors are starting to get tricky.

Thinking out loud here in case anyone else is considering this:
If new hardware is needed, I could always sell the old flasher, and buy the new one.
It seems like this is going be stuck in my head until I either buy one or get a new focus. I just wish I could tell how much improvement I'll really see.

Mexico and the UK both have the ST and the RS , Does SCT not offer tuning for them there ?

Ok I just drove a few hundred miles and this was all I could think about. Would I see a real improvement despite the fact that I haven't done too much to my Focus?
