You can try gum, skoal bandits, patches, ecigs... but its all crap. It's all in your head and nothing will ever replace a lovely cigarette. I weaned myself off over several years from a pack to 1/2 pack and now I only have about a pack a month and that includes one binge day with 5-6 cigs.

Basically decide how many cigs to smoke that day and transfer them to an empty pack that will be carried with you. Once you they are smoked you are done smoking that day. This is where the willpower kicks in, don't buy any or bum any but remember you still get to smoke tomorrow just not any more today. The other trick is to break the habit of cigarettes in certain places or at certain times. Do this slowly too. Heck I still enjoy a cig on the way to work but only do it a few times a month so now its a special treat.

I have been using that method since I started this habit 2 yrs ago. I have never smoked more than two packs A WEEK.

^^^Dude, 1 1/2 packs a day.....damn. That is very expensive. 4380 a year on smokes man and that is being on the low side of the pricing....good lord that blows my mind sorta.

^^I'm actually looking into just that.

Oh, and as for the cold turkey approach, if that worked I would have quit a LONG time ago. I don't have that level of willpower, truth be told.

A guy I did contract work with in Iraq smoked the e-ciggs and he use to smoke 2 packs a day, he started on the e-cigg and dropped down to 2 ciggs a day and the e-cigg, then curbed down to only 1 real cigg a day, and finally completely eliminated real ciggs. He said it was a HUGE help.

I too am in the process of quitting, just don't have the extra money laying around like I did when I was 16.
I read this book called Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking and it honestly worked pretty well. His philosophy was that you shouldn't quit while you're reading it... just keep on keepin on and you'll eventually just not want to smoke anymore. You're supposed to finish the book, but I never did. If you can get past how on every page he is bragging about himself saying stuff like "I smoked 200 cigs a day and quit in one day for good" then that book may be for you.

I personally couldn't.
But I've heard wonderful things about his book from others.
