Rear splash shield?

I was under our 2005 ZX4 last night doing some rust abatement and noticed some unused holes in the rear bumper. That got me thinking that I might be missing a rear splash shield that came with the car. Does anyone here have a shield back there? I don't even know if there's supposed to be one. We got the car with 139,000 miles on it, and I never considered that we might be missing a part. That would really save on damage to the rear.

It should have them. They are kind of a molded carpet, for NVH reasons.
I would say visit the local salvage yard or give Ford a call.

I doubt any damage would occur because they aren't there. It's more of a noise control part.

I have the two carpet-like liners in the wheel well, but I was wondering if there was one that went across the rear and covered the spare tire well. I was walking through the parking lot at lunch today and peeked under someone's Focus, and they didn't have one, so I guess it was never there. Funny though, there are holes in the bumper that would accommodate those plastic snaps.

Lots of extra holes and they don't always fill them, when I had a slight bump in the back I went and yanked all pop fasteners to replace with positive expanding bolt holders and I ended up using several locations that had nothing in them at all.

Thinking they start off using all positions but as car assembly line matures they begin to drop out some of the hard to see locations, extra fasteners left=more company profit. Like the way they often put eight holes in bumper, 4 on a side to bolt bumper down with but commonly only use two each side, the others go empty. Fine as long as car parts still seem to fit nice and tight.
