I need BOOOOST!!!!!!

ill walk you through the entire process for the best and safest launch possible.
slicks or DR's: smoke em in the water box if you got em street tires: drive AROUND the water box and give the tires a quick spin in the dry after the water box to get a wee bit of heat in them and make sure there isnt any water in the tread. that can foobar a launch. pull up to the line and when both top staging lights come on pull the ebrake and leave the brake on. now if you have auto you just put it in drive and stick the gas to the floor and let off the brake to take off, manual is a bit more complex so try to follow me here. clutch pedal in, put it in 1st gear, try to rev the rpms and hold them between 3000 and 4000. the ideal rpms vary from car to car, track to track, and of course depend greatly upon your tires as well. experiment with different revs for the best launch. the lights on the tree should now be coming down. put your hand on the e-brake handle and start to SLOWLY let out the clutch pedal to the point where you can feel it starting to grab and try to pull you forward. it is very important that you hold it to the point just before it starts dragging the back tires. this is also causing the suspension to pre-load which means less energy is being transferred into the suspension and lost on the launch on the last YELLOW before the green light comes on, release the e-brake, and start letting the clutch the rest of the way out SLOWLY while working your way to full throttle. after you get rolling give it the beans and you're off. this technique is meant to minimize wheel spin, pre-load the suspension, and in the event you do get wheels spin, it helps keep wheel hop to a minimum. wheel hop is bad bad news. you can tear up all manner of things due to it. it can tear up motor mounts, the brackets the motor mounts attach to, axles, and differentials to name a few things. wheel hop occurs when the wheel and tire are actually bouncing up and down on the pavement a little bit while the tire is spinning. this causes the tire to grab really hard for a moment and then it spins freely, then it grabs again, and spins freely. it basically amounts to taking a jackhammer to your drivetrain and waiting for something to break. anyhoo that is pretty much the best technique for a launch. its easier on the car and also yields the best 60ft times when done correctly. it takes ALOT of practice though. i completely understand the concept and how it is supposed to be done but i only rarely get it right. my 60ft time on factory 15" wheels with shitty tires usually is around the 2.2-2.3 range but every once in awhile i will nail it and peg a 2.0 on the factory tires. i even got a 1.9 before but i think that was on my 18x7.5's which hook alot better. if you cant get that trick down pat then there is always the rev and dump technique. you rev the rpms to redline and then dump the clutch all at once on the last yellow and take off spinning. which will usually yield about a 2.3-2.4 60ft. just remember to take off on the last yellow light. dont wait for the green or you will get left. just trust me on that.

spinning a auto? neutral dropping it? 2.4 seems to be rather average for people anyways. lol.[/QUOTE] nope. i hold it to the torque converter (2-2.5k rpm) after everyone is staged and the yellow light start to go and when the tree goes green i push it right to the floor and off the brakes. it will spin up till about 5k rpm. |
