one thing I see that all the people saying do 4 years are neglecting to mention...It's an 8 year obligatio. You get out after 4, your IRR and you can still be called up if your specialty is needed or they need to build manpower.

He's joining the Air Force. I don't know anybody that has been called back for reserves after getting out. If it does happen in the Air Force it's not very often. But that's a good point nonetheless.

Yes, goinloco, good point, but 5 years ago i was told i couldnt re-enlist because of what they called force shaping. where they were cutting 20,000 enlisted and officer positions because the AF was too big. I agree with DarkSPork, teh chances of being called back are next to nothing

My brother just got done with his tour with the Army, and his contract is up in a few months, they told him he cannot re-enlist. That worries me too.

Stay out of trouble. Also, just like any civilian job, try to be the best at it. This will make your EPRs better, along with volunteer work. Make sure when you have the opportunity to take college classes (self-improvement bullet for your EPR). Taking college classes not only helps you develop yourself professionally in the military, but helps if you get out. If you do your best and stay out of trouble you shouldn't be forced out. The military isn't hard, a lot of people just lack the maturity and motivation for it.
