Winter tires -- now I reallly have 4x4

DTD had a pretty good deal going on wheels/tires last month. I bought a set of 15" MB Wheels alloys + General Altimax Artic mounted/balanced for < $437 shipped to my door (after rebates). I went with 205/60/15 because it's nearly identical height to my stock size (215/45/17). We have some rain + low 30s on the way this weekend, so I took this Holiday to put them on.

Here's what I started with:

OEM combo weighs: (don't tell wifey I borrowed the scale)

winter combo weighs:

1 on:

rear shot -- one of each:

Rear drums - booo! Free hub-centric rings = Yay!

Afters:

I bought tuner lugs from AAP (with 40% discount code). DTD wants $45 for theirs. I paid < half. I drove all afternoon on them. They ride better than OEM. They don't tramline at all (the KH16s are the worst tramlining tires I've ridden on). They have a low humm to them at speeds up to ~45 mph -- about what agressive AT tires sounds like. They are louder than the GY Silent Armors on my SUV. Take-off traction doesn't appear to be as good in the rain as OEM KH16s, but it may just spin easier because they are lighter.

Here's the weird part! We drove all afternoon: lots of 10-25 minute trips, and the TPMS light/chime didn't appear once. There are no sensors in the new set. The old set is in the garage, so it may reset once I drive in? I'm sure the light will come on one of these days. I'm not so much of a believer in TMPS anymore.

Your TPMS sensor light will come on after a bit. It happened to me when I got my Enkei's. Just press the reset button on the lower console when the message about "tire pressure monitor fault" message appears. It's not really that annoying tho.

Your car looks pretty good, just needs a tad bit lower.

^^ This but more than a tad...

Good looking set of winters. Deff looks better then steelies.

Your TPMS will come on, if I remember correctly its supposed to come on when one tire gets more then (insert #) psi lower than the rest. And when you change out all 4 it confuses it for a little bit. Took my car like 120miles to realize it.

You will be loving those new tires when the snow hits. And it also looks pretty good. With the taller tire your car will ride a little softer also.

Yep -- they are 5X. I picked the least expensive. 7X were the same price, but I figured 5 spokes would be easier to clean. MY TPMS light did finally come on this morning. The was an audible alert, light was flashing, and said something like "Tire Pressure Monitoring Fault" on the display. I reset the alert, and the light staid solid.

I searched months for a set of steelies locally -- which I could not find. Even if I found a set for $80-100, by the time I added tires, paid for mounting/balancing, I would have been near or at the price of this new alloy set. I know TR is also great (I have ordered from them prior). I priced new steelies from them. The overall cost was higher once I factored in shipping. Also, I already have a cc from DTD, so the 0% for 6 months helped seal the deal.

Sorry -- I have no plans to lower it. I'm 40, and the ride is already quite rougher than all vehicles I've had in the past 15 years. Also, I need the clearance to get through snow. Last winter was brutal (didn't have the Focus then).
