Is this a similar process on a non-svt car?

Let me know how that works finding a leather source. You only need a yard for the insert, and I am looking too, although needing black leather. My interior guy is adamant I use soft side perf vinyl instead, and says I won't be able to tell the dif, but I really don't want to do that. So I need to get a new supplier, he had been getting me stuff at cost.

bay wolf,

yes, it's the same on all cars. The only difference is if you have the trim piece across your door insert, like Dirt and I have. Most cars don't have this, only a fraction of 2000-02 US cars had it.

I don't have an SVT either.

Hopefully this place pans out since they can do diff perforation patterns and custom colors. Trying to finding a material source has been a pain let alone getting into wanting a bright red. Wish Cayse remebered were he got his haha. Will let you know miragesmack.

Hey miragesmack, perforated leather would be half hide=20 sq ft or so at a cost of $125.00 total. Cando any color. They actually sell leather by the sq inch plus perforation cost so to get like a sq yard cost like twice as much as a half hide. They also do the vinyl by the ft at like $8.

I have tried to find an online supplier with little luck. They don't want to deal with small orders. Normally I buy a yard of something from my local guy, and it's a running yard at around 54" wide, giver or take. It's not a square yard. $125 seems high. I still pondering this whole thing, since I am broke at the moment anyway.

Yeah know what u mean. Btw the sq inch price was .30 per inch so that = $388.00! Half hide while cheaper still more than expected. Curious now about how the perf vinyl would look since only $45 or so for same qty. Probably look cheap. Too much to do not enough money. Maybe i can start selling plasma haha jk. This will have to waite until after the DGRs and full Dominant Eng suspension.

I remember where I got mine, it just wasn't a retail source so I don't post it (ie: they don't normally sell bulk leather). I also try to promote creativity in others by doing mods that aren't easily copyable... LOL. Try a slightly different material, like red carbon/kevlar cloth, or maybe a different perforation pattern. Hell you could even use solid leather and get a logo embossed into it (how's that for a unique idea? ). I am flattered when people do want to copy my work, but what can I say, sometimes I feel like I need to change it up again when it happens.

In any case, if you're dead set on making it look like mine, leatherimpact.com looks like a promising website that may be able to help with small orders. I've never dealt with them before though, so it's not a recommendation, just a Google search result.

Davey Boy: you should be able to clean the suede with Tuff Stuff or Resolve. Spray it on, let it sit for 30 seconds, and blot or lightly rub the fabric with microfiber cloth. If it starts to pill up from rubbing, stop, cut the pills off with a sharp fabric scissor or xacto knife (don't pull them off), and try again rubbing with less force.

I don't know if spray adhesive bleeds through suede, but I used 3M Interior Trim Adhesive to stick the leather to both sides of the inserts. I've used that stuff on headliners too and it works great.

I totally understand. But now that i found a place that can do custom colors it may be similar to yours and maybe not now as far as color goes. Would probably still do perf leather though. Unlike your photos i will be reusing the plastic trim pieces that go over the front door inserts and tie them into the rest of the interior(except for the backseats cuz i yanked them out and decked the back to look like it came that way from the factory. Needed the cargo space but that's another story). One of your suggestions is already in my plans just can't say which one haha. It should look diff than yours when done so no fear your originality will still be intact. Your interior was a spring board of inspiration for me as have some others i've seen. Just keep up the good work!

It's all good; I like knowing my ideas were pulled off the way I wanted them done, and that they inspire others. I originally wanted to do the trim pieces in blackwood like you plan on doing (to match the center console and radio surround), but I could never find a 3-door in Europe with blackwood insert trims. Maybe someday I'll tackle it, but it's waaaay down the list. Plus I'm not too thrilled with the idea of drilling through my leather inserts. LOL

Whatever your ideas are, get them done before you reveal them! There will always be somebody else who reads it and gets it done before you, and that's when it really sucks.
