after car gets hot my car won't start!?

I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone has ever had the same problem that I'm having. I have an '02 focus mach edition. After I drive it for a while and its hot outside I turn off the car and if I get back into it fast and try to start it, it won't start. It acts like it wants to but it won't and I have to let it cool for at least 15 minutes. I've been told that my engine bay feels really hot but my temp gauge stays in the middle and the car doesn't overheat because I can take it on long drives and it doesn't overheat. I only have 44k on the car now and I'm hoping to get any help I can on this forum because I like my car.

This is not normal. I drive in much hotter weather than you and have never had that problem (try 110 degree day with airconditioning on). Sometimes a computer problem can be woorse when it gets hot. By the way, the hottest point is after you stop, not while your driving. Could it be that the fan is not comming on.

dont pay attention to the temp gauge in the car, its doesnt really show anything until its too late.

but yes, check to see if your fan comes on after you've stopped the car. also it doesnt hurt to check your coolant levels and coolant quality. maybe do a radiator flush.

but mostly likely you have a broken sensor somewhere.

This may be something that you will have to take it somewhere and have an analyzer plugged into it when its hot and you try to restart it. It could be a failing crank or cam position sensor or possibly weak fuel pressure.

it used to be, on older cars, that this problem could almost always be attributed to the starter solenoid. don't know if that's the case with your car, but it's a start.

btw, i've never really heard of this problem on a focus.

Does the starter turn the engine over?

thanks for the help. The starter does turn the engine over. It doesn't click like when the battery is shot, but it acts like it wants to turn on. I've checked the fluid level and that's fine. As far as the antifreeze quality, its straight from ford.

How long has it been since you changed your coolant?

I have a 00 focus and 47k on it and needs a coolant change. That is happening today.

does the starter turn it over at a normal speed, or is it a slower speed?
