Intake Manifold Noise-SVT

Ok, I have a ticking or a "slapping noise" coming from around my intake manifold. is there a way to fix it, if not do i replace it with a stock one, or perhaps order one from topspeedperformance?

there is also a steady ticking coming from what seems to be the block during idle. lookin for ideas of the causes.
thanks.

edit; engine is stock, with k&n drop in.

Did you check heat shield? They often rattle loose.

And i guess if the steady tick you hear isn't the normal 'sewing machine' sound, it's probably a lifter. Or maybe, just maybe, you should CHECK YOUR OIL!

The SVT has solid lifters and they tend to be nosier than hydraulic lifters, and make a little ticking sound. As far as the intake, I have no idea. I'm very new to the Focus game though.

Intake manifolds can't really make ticking noises...unless your DSI lever broke and it's trying to switch from short runners to long runners but can't. That will make a rhythmic clicking noise of sorts. A video of the noise might be helpful. Any check engine lights?

And jasper, not everyone knows what a lifter is. Most people just know about air intakes, exhaust, etc. When you start getting into the internals, not everyone knows. If he asked what an intake was, I would flame him. But a lifter? Gotta start learning somewhere.

thanks for the input guys.
yea i'm still learnin about my car and what everything is.
bmylez; the dsi lever sounds like what it might be. if it helps, it really does it while i accelerate. it sounds similar to those plastic hand clappers and the rhythm increases as the rpms do. no cel lights.

The DSI lever doesn't increase with speed. If you are getting an RPM-dependent noise, then you need to start looking at valve springs or lifters. Not much else makes a ticking noise near the intake manifold. Not to freak you out, but I really hope you don't have a rod bearing gone bad. You get a knock/tick from that as well. Don't freak out yet, but you might need to have a shop look at it. Can you take a video of it before you spend any money?

ok cool. i sched. the ford shop to check it out wednesday. i'll try and get a vid even tho its hard to hear it while in neutral. happens when there is a load being placed on the engine. thanks a bunch for the input, i'll specifically have the shop check those things you mentioned.

edit; i'll try and get the vid up tonight.
edit 2; car didn't make the noise, i'll try tomorrow after it's been sitting all night.

i recently got my oil changed, and checked the level yesterday, it was a bit high, maybe 1/4 inch above max mark. so i got it to normal levels and i haven't noticed the sound as much... anyhow vid tomorrow on cold start b/c that's when it does it most.
