Edmunds.com is fairly correct for Private Party values. Full retail book value is mainly used for totaling out a wreck. KBB is outdated, I think.

Dealers may sell those $5-6k ones for 4500-5500 ish, making the buyers think they got a 'great deal'. Then get them financed for 19.9%.

And, that $3100 trade offer? Thats not too bad for a dealer.

My thoughts exactly..but the Crown Vic PI Pkg I was going to trade it in for had a lot of body scratches, a couple small dents, and one area that looked like someone took a cheese grater to it. And the interior was dirty as piss, and would have needed a few hour interior detail to make it look halfway decent. So if I was going to trade it in, I wanted to trade it straight up. The Focus has no dents, dings, and only a few minor scratches which would all buff out. So I couldn't see giving up my car PLUS $750 for a car that's exterior and interior wasn't in as good of condition, and had the same amount of miles.

But sidenote: I've decided to keep the Focus

After putting that new fuel pump and fuel filter in, I'm getting damn near 35+ MPG's and I don't think I want to give that up yet. Lol. Plus, I love my Focus. Even though I'm a bit bored with it, she's my baby. And I want to swap out the Eibach Pro suspension for an SVT suspension, and fix my broken end links. Then this car would be perfect for me. As of now, the suspension is waaay too stiff. Plus, if I fix the timing belt, and throw on new breaks all around, and give it a tranny fluid flush, this thing would be perfect. So rather than start over with a new car, I'll just keep this one.
