what does a bad motor mount sound like?

when i am starting off slowly, or am traveling at lower speds (25 mph and under) i hear a ticking when i hit the gas. i know its gotta be a mount, but which one and how do i test it while under the vehicle? i had it in gear on a hoist and couldn't replicate the noise for a mechanic at the shop i work at. thanks!

ps, thats the only time i have a problem, no rough idle or popping out of gear. my magnaflow takes over at speeds over 30, so i can't hear any noises in the engine bay.

Is this an automatic?
If so,make sure its not a leak at your flexpipe.
I had the exact problem.
If its a mount, you will experience some shaking.
Mine has a bad dog bone mount right now.....when I put it into gear it makes a crunch noise!

Motor mount problems are low frequency. More felt as a vibration.

Could be a CV axle. they can click or pop under low-mid loads if bad.

That would make me feel alot better, but I'm thinking its the trans to be honest. I just need to go pick up someone who knows diagnosing of drivetrain better than me. Cause I'm not sure, and it scares me to think it could be the trans going.

So,what did you figure out?
Still, dont rule out the flex pipe leaking.
Mine is exactly as your describing.
Let us know what you come up with.

I just blew my poly dog bone into peices, pop the hood, if the motor moves while barley blipping the gas check the mounts,
Keep in mind it could also be a lower control arm bushing as well.

x2, youll notice the engine moving too much and then a slight knock as it hits metal to metal instead of being cushioned by the rubber insert. but also you should be able to see a messed up motor mount pretty easily by lifting the car and peeping at the drivers side under the bottom.

i originally thought it was that mount, but a mechanic looked at it and so did I, and all looked good. I think it's within the trans, because i can be going down a hill with my foot off the gas, and hit the brakes and when i let off it ticks again. but when the car is in neutral it makes no such noise. so no exhaist leak. its based on engine movement. i can be under the hood and rev it all day and the engine stays put. but then again I don't have much torque to begin with :P
