Here are some the details (some new, some not) that I gleaned from a FR11 thread on the ST at another forum summarizing what Lisa Schoder said about the ST at RF11:
  • No Auto trans
  • No AWD
  • Revoknuckle is not currently planned for the ST
  • Power is 247HP, 263TQ
  • Traction control and ESC can be completely disabled
  • No RS version of the Focus is currently planned
  • Tangerine Scream is an ST exclusive color
  • The ST will be released next year (2012)
  • Pricing will be competitive with other cars in its class
  • The US will get the same performing ST that the rest of the world gets

I'm interested in the car, but it has to be priced right and have an aftermarket following.
Mature platform = old platform. The stock ST will have a superior motor to the WRX making similar power with less turbo lag and much better fuel economy not to mention a nicer interior. If it handles and shifts well it will be plenty competitive with cars like the WRX for those who don't need AWD.

No revoknuckle=

You can't make a cheaper competitor to the AWD cars without something special.

After I expressed my disappointment, someone else chimed in and said, "I remember, when asking about an LSD of any type or an alternative like RevoKnuckle, she more or less said that the engineers would look at all tools at their disposal and choose a suitable solution. From what I got, nothing is planned yet."

So, maybe it's not as bleak as it first appeared.

A FWD without torque steer could compete with AWD in 1/4 mile acceleration, the problem is putting the power down in a straight line. With big enough tires, you could compete on 0-60 times as well.

No Revoknuckle would almost be a deal breaker, unless they came up with something else.

Torque steer is not something I want to deal with. I mean, why not go with a Mazda Speed 3, which has plenty of torque steer? Or a WRX, with none? (Yes, there are plenty of reasons, but it's still a valid question). If you're going to price this the same as other cars, in it's class, you have to provide something that makes it as good if not better than the competition, not just a Focus badge. If Ford has this technology, why the hell wouldn't they use it? The only thing I can think of is they're cutting costs or don't think they need it? Of course, if you start bumping the power up, you're going to run into some serious torque steer.

I think I'd still get the ST, but I'd be really unhappy if Ford doesn't do anything to control torque steer.

I've read other interviews where some Ford executive indicated they are going to use something mechanically equivalent to the revo-knuckle. I don't see them being able to sell the ST for 27k unless it out-performs the MS3. With less power than the MS3 it may not torque steer as badly, but it's also unlikely to be as quick as the MS3. Maybe they're hoping a better interior (like Recaros, etc) and better fuel economy will sell it.

As far as I'm concerned, revoknuckle is just a name. As long as they implement something that doesn't sacrifice power for control over torque steer, I'll be extremely happy.

Took a photoshop from FJ forums and added red brake calipers.
In less than a year, I really hope I can put one of these in my driveway.
