Here's a hot list of cars to wait for in 2012 by Popular Mechanics...

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...us-st#fbIndex9

Whether it's a guess on the price of probably a base ST, $25k sounds about right, but the source of the speculation is unknown.

On another note, I want to see more photos of STs in blue!

That was a mistake not putting the Getrag in the 05-07 ST's IMO if they were trying to replicate the SVT.
The motor in the ST has more torque, than the SVT. & you have to rev the SVT to make torque, hence the 6-spd, to help keep the motor in the meat of the torque band, unlike the 2.3 motor, that can deal w/ less gearing, cause the torque it put's out. I'm impressed w/ the torque the 23 has. Ford had to make there engine's greener, that's where the Dura-tec-MZR comes in at. & if Ford can cut costs, like MTX's over Getreg's, etc, they'll do it. Don't get me wrong, I like the Getreg too, w/ twin lay shafts. You could always add a shifter for your MTX.

you do know that the 6-speed getrag transmission is shorter overall than the 5-speed mtx right? meaning youll hit your peak rpm faster (and more times at that)

thats why I said that... that and people have been know to blow one up on occasion...

and the MTX-75 is readily availibly for aftermarket mods... its been in fords line up since the 90's. Torsen, certain aftermarket clutches and flywheels... just certain things that are already on the market for the MTX-75 that may be able to use with the new revision, that wont be usefull for the getrag

manufacturers charge more for something that they cant sell a lot of (specialty items), I rather see the MTX 75 flooding the market just to get prices down on those particular mods. That and it will be easier for replacement parts and service down the road if there is more than 5K cars the come out with it...

does anyone know what colors and options the ST is going to have?

is there going to be like a special package like the SVT's had with the EAP?

this will be my next car.

I talked with two ford rep's at the chicago auto show and as already stated in this thread a few times, they said the "st will be priced higher than the titanium". I seriously hope the base model ST (granted base may be pretty loaded) is not over 25k. I am one of those people that is still kind of stuck in 2002 new car pricing (svtf fully loaded for 18-19k). Still though... If the ST starts at 27 or 28k I will most likely be looking elsewhere.

My friend had a 2010 GTI spec'd out with everything but nav and the sticker was 32k. Was a nice car, but not 32k Nice! She now has a 2010 MS3 base model with tech package (sticker 26 but got it as a new leftover for 22k)

I personally am stuck between the mustangs, a wrx and potentially the new ST but only if its not overly priced. I Feel a base model mustang 5.0 is a fair price at 28-29k. I think the v6 is an even better deals starting at 23k for that nice combo of HP & mpg... Lets hope ford impresses us in every aspect!

Posted via FF Mobile I still firmly stand behind my sub 25k estimated base price for the ST. The titanium starts alittle above 22k, plenty of room for the ST.

I do believe the ford rep was hinting at the loaded titanium but that was just an assumption on my part.

Lets hope your right! The direct competition is the MS3/GTI and those are 23/24. If focus can start 24-25k with base model being pretty optioned out it will be a winner. Power of the ms3 with the fuel economy (or more) of the GTI. Handling should be on spec with both and interior just as nice (or nicer) than the Vdub.

As long as I dont have a long commute (5-10 miles to work or so) the Mustang GT/2011 WRX are still really high on my list. If I end up changing to a commute the ST will probably be number one as I will need ever bit of that 30-40mpg the ecoboost can squeeze out.

Anyone have insider info on the release date? I keep hearing 2012 but wondering if its going to be a 2013 model in 2012 or if we might see it any earlier?
