What's happening is the US car market is matching up with the rest of the world. Old timers looked at compacts as 'cheap' and 'temporary until you can get a big car'.

Now, C class cars can be bought with many features that used to only be on big cars. When Ford cheapened the Focus for the US market, it hurt its quality to sell to cheapskates. Now, no apologies to sell loaded C size car, and loaded B class Fiestas are selling, and not to low credit score buyers as the old Festiva/Escort.

We all know that cars mature throughout model changes, they're supposed to since the next model is supposed to be better than the next. The key though is that each new model should capture the essence of the previous model. That is what long running models like the Mustang do. I think that has been the major complaint of the refreshes we've gotten here is that there is no connectivity between the models. While the innards are basically the same, you don't see an '00-'07 in an '08-'11 and you don't see an '08-'11 in an '12. They're all great cars for what they are, but every new Focus we've gotten is basically a new car called a Focus and not a continuation of the previous model, IMO.

From the posts I've read, it just really seems as though the Fiesta seems to have that essence of what drew people to the Focus in the first place. Entry level car with funky european exterior and interior styling, has just enough power to get out of its own way, but has great handling that makes it a blast to drive.

The '12 Focus a much more serious and mature car. There is no funky looking exterior or dash and it's filled to the brim with technology. In other words it's a great car for those of us who are ready to buy a more serious and mature car. Not everyone has matured to that level. Some people want to just have a new version on the '00-'04 car and all I'm saying is that the Fiesta seems to have that essence.

I could be dead wrong, but that's just my opinion on the subject.

Posted via FF Mobile I understand what your saying and I agree with some of it. But imo, the 2012 focus still has some funy styling on the outside with its wide gapping mouth and agressive styling that seems to be absent in many c segment cars. I agree that there was some idenity crisis in our current models of foci, but the rest of the world I think it flowed nicely. When i got into my focus I saw value value value. It was cheap but had that euro styling you expect from more expensive cars and an interior that touched on the important details, like puttug quality materials in places touched the most. I also saw a car that was meant to lead the segment, and in many ways it did. The mkiii shares the same values, and will still be the best handlig c segment car and the most fun to drive and your best value while trying to be the segment leader. It has all that tech because of this, bc ford wants to throw in value and for it to be a leader. Honda has put their new civic on hold many times and now its a year behind...wonder why. Again, dont forget the mki focus we feel inlove with was meant to be a segment leader....and so is the mkiii.

lol... WHY?!?!

as made famous by Henry The VIII... Really?

and if you notice I spell things wrong. a lot. (could have said alot)

my point was: everyone poo-pooing the Fiesta becaues its "small" shouldn't even consider a focus, or (Insert car here).

the internet is full of hate. Some of the dumbest ideas can be found on MSN news articles especially in the replies.(its where I got the "I am tall ...at 5.4")

O and the bad news is, I will be turbo'ing my own vehicle, so it may belate my ownership of a ST or other future Focus.

Other bad news... I am starting to drool over the SEL 2010 Taurus that I walk by every day on the way to class.

Yeah, I am hoping they will be offering a slightly more powerful Focus (in-between the standard Focus and the ST, maybe the 1.6L ecoboost) in Australia. I really want a dual-clutch gearbox, but I want some level of performance too. I could get a GTI, but this focus looks a lot better feature-wise. I am really just hoping they announce a dual-clutch option for the ST. That would solve most of my car-choosing woes right there.

O.k., first post here so be gentle. I can't see how this thing is going to be sub-$30K when the regular Focus is going to be $24K with a host of options still not applied (you can see this one here says a price of $23,490).

http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/focus/2012/

It looks like it's missing the "Sport" package, which will have the 18" wheels and better suspension and such. More than likely it doesn't have any of the "Tech" package on the interior either. Add both of those - I'm speculating of course - and you're knocking on the back door of $30K.

Now add to that all the goodies that the ST is going to add and I think it will be closer to $35K, or more with ADP (added dealer profit). I know I look like I'm a troll, but I'm just trying to give the American auto guys a second look these days, but with this thing, IMO, being close to the price of a WRX or 2012 VW R, I think it's competition is going to be too strong, and those two have all wheel drive.

I hope you are all right, but I fear this thing is going to be super spendy.

Posted via FF Mobile Titanium Hatch starts at 22,750...if you load it up with everything you'll probably get to 26k. The ST wont come with all this stuff, at least the base model will probably be packaged like an SEL focus with the added performance features. Even if its a titanium itll be 25k. Options will probably be myford touch and winter package...and probably not much else.

And can people remeber that the wrx and whatever other of these "competition" cars with awd or whatever wont have anywhere close to the features the focus does. Granted some people dont care about some features but you still have to consider them. You cant just be like...

The ST is overpriced.
Why?
Because this car is so much faster and its only a few thousand more.
But the St comes with led headlights and heated seats and rain sensing wipers and sync system and yada yada yada. What does that car come with.
Um...power windows, single cd sound system, some other stuff...but who cares its got awd and is soooo fast.
Oh...so it comes with pretty much less equipment then a compact kia does?
....ITS SO FREAKING FAST, i can rape mustangs and vettes!
Right...

Btw congrats on the first post and welcome to FF. My comment wasnt directed at you, just general statement.

The ST isn't going to be marked up $5k over list...

People I'd like to announce the 2012 ST's #1 Hater ----> HaveBlue83

Posted via FF Mobile Yea then the Evo has a problem and you have to drive a billion miles because their dealer network is shrinking day by day. Ill be surprised if they still around in 10 years.
