Im very confused by some of the lines he is taking. I guess you dont have time to have perfect lines while on those roads. I really think his is good because of his car.

Yeah I think he drive so fast that he don't have time for good position in a turn.

It's true he misses a lot of the apexes but keep in mind that was his first run up the hill. The line used in rally slightly differs from that used in road racing. It is fairly common to leave a little bit of road left over on the sides so that if you slide more than expected, you don't go off. And rally drivers often turn in a little later for better visibility around the corner and to increase that safety cushion. Sure fractions of seconds could be shaved by taking the fastest possible line, but people who do that won't finish as many races as those who don't use every last bit of road. If you compare in-car videos, Pastrana's lines are much better than those of the other household rally names (ie: Block, Deegan, Mirra).

Something I was observing while watching the WRC on HD Theater yesterday. I saw that all the Rally Drivers did use lines LIke I expected. But the roads in the video were a bit different. They where hitting apexes just right and their lines were flawless.

You also have to remember that on a mountain road you have a lot of decreasing radius turns and curves of different radii (connected without transitions) which makes it hard to pick the apex. The mountain dictates the road alignment and the driver has to adapt. You could also hear the co-driver giving instruction not to cut certain corners due to exposure or obstructions (Travis got lucky when he ignored one instruction). This means the middle of the road is sometimes the safest place to be.
