Interior paint build.

Ok so I started painting my interior a year ago but had to stop due to cold weather. So now i'm going to get it finished with in the next week. just figured I would post pic's. The first pic is when I was starting it. I removed the entire dash and all part's to do this. I never paint part's in a car. Main color is metallic burnt copper and secondary color is metallic gun metal gray.
Going to get the seat done this fall with black outer's and copper inner's.

I will post more pic's over the next week to show progress.

This is it now.

Started to remove part's today to paint this weekend.
Here is an out side view.

Moved this to the Builds & Showroom section for you, you'll get more looks here & it fits better (not a how to or question thread).

Lot of work done there.

I really like what you have done here. That copper color is one of my favotite colors on autos!

My boss has a 1990 Chevy 454SS project pickup that we are working on. Has red interior now and we are going to be painting it gray. Any tips you can offer us on painting interior pieces?

We have remmoved the dash, door panels, and all the other trim pieces and are currently trying to decide what paint to use and how to go about it.

Sure thing. I will tell you how I go about prepping the parts and painting them.

After I remove the parts I fill up the bath tub with hot soapy water. i use dawn original dish soap and I let them just hang out for a few hours soaking.

After a good soak I scrub them up really good them rinse really good.
Next I spray them down with wax and grease remover the wipe them down.
Finally after the was remover is wiped off and just before I hang them for paint I give the part's a good wipe down with acetone do It quickly some part's might be sensitive to the chemical.

Depending on the part's or color I want helps with the choice of paint type.

Stay away from Krylon Fuzion for plastic. It chips quickly.
The paint i'm using for this dash is VHT Burnt Copper engine paint and VHT engine paint for the gun metal gray.

20 minute's between coats

Your first coat needs to be a dusting.
your next coat should be very thin.
then a full coat thin as well.
finally a finish coat not thick but not really thin either.

Some people use an adhesion primer for plastic but I don't like it. Most of the paint I use has a primer in it.

Finally I use a matte clear coat the paint in the " high Traffic area's" will try to wear over time. so a couple coats of the matte clear will help this.

After all is said and done let part's hang and cure for 24 hours before re installing. Be careful so you don't chip part's.

I will be posting more pic's tonight of my pulled interior then some of the prep work. Gonna start painting tomorrow. So there will be lot's of pic's.
