Thumbs up Rally to the Lake Superior Rally...

Every year my friends and I do a run up to Houghton, MI for the Rally America stop known as the Lake Superior Pro Rally.

http://www.lsprorally.com/

We will be leaving on Wednesday, October 13th in the evening. All groups meet either before or after the Mackinac Bridge at a preset time. (Usually midnight, or 1AM.) We then fuel up, and set for the haul to Houghton, and its a haul...

We arrive in the Houghton early in the AM, usually around 7AM, after detours, stopping for bear crossings, etc.

We crash out in hotel rooms in the Travelodge until about noon. Everyone gets up, eats lunch and a bar crawl through Houghton is started. We shut the bars down that night.

Everyone wakes up Friday AM and its time for some breakfast and the Expose where you can go see Pastrana's car, and all the other Rally drivers hanging out with their setups. We then watch the first day of racing which goes until about 11:30pm out in the middle of nowhere in the National Forest.
Basically you are drinking beer in the woods, waiting for a UFO to go buy at 100mph, its pretty awesome, and rally fans are fun. Impromptu races often break out on back roads in between stages.

We then get back late, usually bar it for an hour, then crash. Saturday is more rallying, with several trips up and down 26 between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor, the northern most town in Michigan. This is my favorite road in Michigan, twisty, and you can catch air if you push it. You are running along the rocky edge of Lake Superior and it looks like a shot from Top Gear.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...2&ie=UTF8&z=12

After tons of driving/ rally watching on Saturday, we usually grill out at the top of Brockway Mountain just south of Copper Harbor. Insane views, and a really nice road leading up to it.

After the Rally finishes, we head back to Houghton, and party one last night, then head home in the AM on Sunday

Cars that are going so far, My ST, C4 S4, and a 280AWHP STi. (Yes my car is really out-classed.) All cars will have radar detectors, and two way radios.

Cars seen in the middle of nowhere in the U.P. last year, GTR, GT500, Ford GT, dozens and dozens of STis and Evos, S4s, S6s, a 911, MS3s, GTIs, Jettas, SRT4s. other Subis of all styles. A lot of fast cars where there is usually only farm trucks.

Also where we stay, is where a lot of racers stay, its right downtown in Houghton, and there will be people pitting working on cars outside our hotel room. We typically do 4 people per hotel room, and its very cheap, I think the hotel rooms are $80 per night total, so figure on $20 per night, per person.

Anyone that's interested let me know, this is one INSANE trip...

I can go, but I will need a ride up, and the earliest I can get out of Kalamazoo would be Friday at 11 AM due to classes.

dang a whole weekend sounded WAY more worth it than just one day. If it was taken off the national circut, will there still be awesome cars and people. Or just a small event like any rally down here?

We head up Wednesday night, and drive thru the night, and make a weekend out of it, there are a tons of cars up there watching, not sure if there will be less because its not a national event tho.

well, you won't see block/pastrana or van way, almost none of the national cars will be there, only Mike Hurst's will be cause he's semi local. mostly, just the small time guys.
