hit it really hard towards the steering column. you need a new ignition lock cylinder.

I doubt that's the problem since he has the updated ignition lock cylinder. It's more likely that something has spilled on the shifter and is preventing the steering column from recognizing that the car is in park. If it's not in park, then the key won't come out.

I had a girlfriend who did that once. Called me up sobbing "I left my key in the car because I couldn't get it out, and now it won't start!!!" So I went running over there like some kind of hero, and put it in park for her. I should've answered it over the phone- it's not like I didn't get any nookie for my trouble.

Everyonce in awhile mine has been getting stuck as well. I find it to happen when I try to park quick and get of the car quick. If I take the shifter down to drive and back up to park the key comes out fine.

Manual transmission- ignition key problems= zero, mileage 120k+

i work on construction sites. One of those I worked on for 6 months was a total dust bowl- I had so much on my dash that I just didn't see any sense in cleaning it until I moved to another job. If anyone should be having ignition lock problems- you'd think I would.

If that is what it is, then smacking on the key with something should help. I'd work the shifter up and down some as well.

I have an 03, 110,000 miles, manual transmission. Lately my key has been sticking where it will give me difficulty when I try to start the car, last night it wouldn't budge at all. I was working my night job delivering pizzas too so it was terrible timing.. Any ideas as to what I will need to do? Cost? Etc..

From The Complete How-To Archive, under Interior Modifications: Electrical Related.
Replacing Ignition Lock cylinder after it's completely locked up

I seriously need to get off my ass and start helping someone go through those because this isn't really anything electrical, and we should have sections for Modifications, and Repair/Maintenance to speed up visual searches. Replacing the lock cylinder, or the ignition switch just doesn't fit in the same heading as installing LED lights under the seats IMO.

ignition key stuck

OK, so if the Focus has a problem with the ignition lock, should i lubricate the lock, give it a shot of WD10 a couple of times a year?
