Error code D900 and 9600 after dashboard test

Hi all,

For the last 4-5 months I have had the Engine Warning Light once a month. Twice it was a genuine problem (the same thing actually) and was accompanied by an engine misfire caused by water leaking into the combustion chamber. However, the last two occurences were simply "false alarms" according to the garage and they simply reset the ECU.

This morning the warning light came on again and I have found out how to do the dashboard test and the DTC codes it returned were

DTC 01: D900
DTC 02: 9600

I can't find these codes on any DTC list though. Can someone tell me what they mean before I go to a garage (again!!)

those codes are not real obd2 codes. maybe fake confusing ford codes. you still have to use a scan tool through the obd2 port.

One of the codes anyway...

As Alex pointed out, you won't get powertrain "P" codes without querying the proper OBDII port with a scan device.

And I'd try another garage; DTC codes may be set for minor problems, but they are rarely if ever "false alarms."

Thanks for that link. It says the error was "PATS Ignition Key Transponder Signal is Not Received - Damaged Key or Non -PATS Key". Strange how I would get that whilst driving along!

Anyway, strangely, the warning light has now gone! So I guess it was a "false positive".

Has this ever occurred again?
