Ford is already offering $2,000 rebate on 05 Focus

The 05 models have only been in showrooms since May and already Ford is giving you $2,000 to buy one. Unbelieveable. I don't ever remember a new model year car having factory incentives offered so quickly. I also read somewhere (can't remember where) that Ford is worried because it doesn't seem like the cash back incentives are helping anymore.

It's really sad what's happened to the Focus. The Focus still sells pretty well in the compact car division, but mostly because Ford has to practically give them away. I don't know if the Focus will ever recover from the black eye it got with all the recalls. I think the Focus reliability problem is what hurt sales of the SVTF and is why Ford had to discontinue it. The SVTF is easily as good if not better than anything from Japan, and certainly has more value, but import buyers wouldn't touch it because of all the problems the 2000 Focus had. It also needed another 30 hp but that is another story...

Well, i guess this is one way to look at it...

my local dealers couldnt keep the 05s on the lots even before the incentives.

As for the SVT... Wait till 06. If the rumors are true we may have a very very nice Focus then. (though i am not sure if it will have the SVT badge or not)

As discussed in my price comparo thread I don't think the Focus would be competitive without incentives. The competition has simply moved on and at a price point equivalent/close to that of the Focus.

They discontinued the Focus SVT because they are getting rid of the Zetec engine. The Duratecs have mush more room for improvement, and they dont even offer a Zetec in any Focus in 05.

I don't really know that any new car has not had recalls on it.... the taurus had a million recalls too and look how long that has been doing well. I agree that the focus needs a bit more power to compete, but it's still an econobox and the SVT well it may not be necessary if the engine gets upgraded

remember, the original year or two for the focus were terrible for recalls, but by 2002 it was named the most reliable small car by car and driver or something..............the quality is there
